Yeah, as far as I know, buying software off of a site such as Amazon is legal, however I'm not 100% confident in that. Also, you can get quite nice discounts on After Effects if you're a student or teacher. I got After Effects CS5 from Adobe for only about $350 or so, opposed to the insanely high amount it would have been otherwise. I mean, $350 is still pretty high, but it's a really great VFX program and it's a ton cheaper than it would be without the discount.
As long as it's not a copy, I'm sure its fine. Just as long as you register it in your name, with the serial number you'll be okay.
Although I've been looking around for a cheap version of AE, even CS2 still sells for about £300. I know you can buy it cheaper, I just don't really know where.
It probably depends on the seller and the creator's policy.
What Larry said. Don't buy used, as you could very well end up with an expensive coaster if the seller didn't uninstall the software properly. And don't purchase anything labeled OEM... it's fraudulent as well. After Effects is expensive... even with student discounts, current copies are going to run at least $300 US. Anything less than that is illegal at best and possibly a scam.
Amazon actuly tricks you they say they have cut down the price when they really had jacked it up.
Was $999, now $625.
I wouldn't call that "jacked up".
EDIT: BTW, $999 is the standard retail price that Adobe set.
Well I hevent checked but i know they do that alot to some legos.
