Topic: Question of technique

A while ago I watched Lego Black Ops by Keshen8 and it left behind some questions that I would like to get the answer to.
For example, when the man at the beginning of the video is throwing knives at the enemies and when the knife goes into the man body.
Is that all just masking? or is there some other technique? I am most surprised at how he let the knife go into the minifig..

BTW. Great video

Re: Question of technique

I think the knives were just images added in post-production.

Also, the knives don't stab into the figures, Keshen has some LEGO knives that don't have blades, as seen in his video "One Shot".

Re: Question of technique

I have a knife that I cut the blade off. Just stick it in some red clay, slap the clay on the 'fig, and hey presto, a stab.

Re: Question of technique

yes knives are pieces that are easy to find in almost any set

Re: Question of technique

Really? I wanted one for years, I only got one when the Indiana Jones tent set came out.

Re: Question of technique

and I suppose that the throwing knife is just basic masking right?..

He took a picture of the knife and rotoscoped it into the video as part of editing. No masking involved.

And it looks amazing. I wish I knew how to do that!

Re: Question of technique

Ta-dah!

He made the images rotate quickly and added a 'fast blur' effect.

Re: Question of technique

Another question, I want to make a scene were a minifig is shooting with a crossbow but the problem is the arrow? what can I use as a arrow?
any tips or tricks that you guys know or tutorial that might help?

Re: Question of technique

Cut a wand piece in half, and sharpen one end.

Re: Question of technique

It's definitely a Post-Production work. And that's just the way I would do.

Re: Question of technique

What I would do is take a photo of the lego bow and arrow piece, and then in a photo editor take out every thing BUT the arrow. Then in your video editor simply add it into the video.
