Did you try going to "Advanced Settings"? There should be an option where you can disable the auto-focus and be able to manually focus.
You're still thinking in a Windows mindset. The included software won't work on a Mac, simply because it wasn't designed for it.
In short, the QC9000 does not work in Mac OSX, and there is nothing around that.
There IS an alternate method however. If you can install Windows on Bootcamp, or VMWare for that matter, you'll be able to run the QC9000 drivers, and thus manually drive the QC9000, from a mac. You can then save all your work to the hard drive, and mount the drive from the Mac OS, thus allowing you to use programs such as Final Cut Pro for editing, and monkeyjam for frame capture.
