Topic: Bionicle Modding

Hello fellow animators, here's my question, the field of Bionicle animation is small and few people animate with them.  Because of this you can't seem to get results for this on Google.  My main question is: I animate with classic Bionicle, classic being the newest sets I use are from the 2005 Mask of Light movie sets, I have been hindered by the lack of leg joints and therefore lack of balance, Does anyone have any way to mod original no-joint legs into working jointed ones, not by replacing them?  I would like to hear other Bionicle mods from you guys as well, maybe I can answer maybe someone else, thanks! mini/sunnies

Re: Bionicle Modding

I don't think you can do anything with the pieces you have, but you can get some newer parts from here:http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp … String=273

EDIT: Wait, you said not by replacing them? You mean by drilling holes in them and stuff like that?

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Bionicle Modding

Yes by jointing the legs  is my idea. Has anyone tried this before? I'll post the part images sometime soon.

Re: Bionicle Modding

I love animating with Bionicle, but I've never heard of modifying a leg so it bends. Mabye you can cut the leg in half at the knee and glue on a small hinge? Or cut it in half and drill a hole in the top and bottom half and insert a wire.

EDIT: Have you made any Bionicle films yet? If you have I would like to see them!

Rusty I like the idea, I had another idea today, maybe I could cut it in half and put a ball/joint thing attached to the lower leg half and a hand/connector glued to the top half, I doubt anyone's tried this.  You folks think it would work? mini/sunnies

Re: Bionicle Modding

That sounds like a good idea, but the leg would be elongated unless you cut off about half an inch from each piece.

Re: Bionicle Modding

Damn, I gotta re-watch Mask of Light. I remember it being totally awesome.

Oh, and if you don't mind lots of work, you could attach him to some sort of a stand and mask it out each frame. A lot of professional stop-motion guys do this.
