Topic: The Cinematography Thread.

Hello there, this is the Cinmeatography thread. If there's already one like it, I apologise, I didn't know.

This is the thread where you can share your lighting and camera tricks for use in brickfilming with other members.

Maybe you have a trick or two to give your films a certain feeling or mood? I'm sure many will appreciate it.

One thing I've found, which I'm sure isn't a new innovation is cover your lamps with a transparent colour filter, such as a sweet wrapper, or even a piece of LEGO.

That can give a nice effect if used properly.

Again I apologise if there's a thread like this already.

Cool this thread was well needed  mini/smile  Oh yeah if you use bright colours in brickfilms make sure turn the brightness down a bit mini/tongue

Hello BiM! Not making a comeback but may surf the forums time to time

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

I think if 2 guyz are in a cafe in a detective film, and they're talkin', the camera should be zooming in on them, like, REALLY slowly. That's nice.

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

Have you ever put yellow paper over the set lamp? It really helps makeing a sunset lighting seen mini/smile

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

Always make sure to use the rule of thirds. If two people are having a conversation, make sure that one is justified to the right of the screen, and the other to the left. This helps to avoid confusing the audience over which one is facing which way.

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

You don't always have to have your camera focused on the main character of the scene. Try having him do 3/4 of his actions, then focus on him.

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

I am struggle quite a lot on cinematography. I don't think my lighting is nowhere near good enough. I use white paper of my lamps so the heat doesn't raise the lego board and it reduces light flicker with my webcam. I reckon it is my camera though, I got an automatic webcam that automatically focuses and automatically adjusts the right lighting exposure. Of course I was not aware about this when I was looking for a camera but that makes it hard for me to make a cinematic film.

I am a Brickfilmer that wants to succeed in becoming a director and maybe own an animation studio.

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

I hear some can and when it comes to filming i find that just holding a small piece off screen (such as a foot) can save time when haivng characters jump or fall. Instead of having string or editing out whatever is holding them up.

Also to your sig i am an apple mini/lol

Interesting. Useful to know like the 180 degree rule. Another great rule is the grid thing rule. Indy mogul did a good video on this other cinematography rules but I can't find it mini/sad

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

I have been taking a film class, and I have been blown away with the stuff that I didn't know! Storyboarding is alot more complex then you would think. One thing though that I have been taught, and have noticed is that audio is REALLY important. In someways more important then the visual picture. Having bad sound in a video really detracts from the overall film.

I second that 100% - and too many (good) brick films has bad audio:|

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

I do my filming at night so that the lighting stays near the same. light off. Sun Down. set light(s) on. depending on where you computer is will also make the lighting different.

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

Just thinking, perhaps we should compile some of this into an article and put it in the resources section?

Re: The Cinematography Thread.

How would some of you guys animate an elevator scene?
I have my camera (Logitech C910) in a cradle. The scene is inside an elevator, so how do you suppose I simulate the moving of it?
Change the lighting? Something... Can anyone give me some tips?

What's stopping you from writing an article?
