Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

L.A. Noire is looking to be one amazing game with amazing technology used to create it.

Word is that it's coming out April 4th... Don't know if it's true or not, but all I know is that this game can't come out soon enough.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I bought a new power supply for my PC and a Radeon HD 4350 so now I can finally play PC games from this century.

Only half-joking.

Unfortunately the card isn't top-notch, but it's the most I'm willing to pay for and I have a PS3 for games that would run poorly on my PC. I can run Oblivion pretty well along with Just Cause 2 (playable, but a better CPU would really help).

Next up is a 16:9 monitor and a dual core CPU (I only have a 2.1 Ghz single core right now, which really limits how well my games run).

Feels good to finally be able to take part in those Steam sales.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Heh, I've been thinking about doing something similar, Badger. Unfortunately I don't have a base system. The card I've been watching is the Radeon HD 4850. I don't own a console, so I'd like something that would run pretty much any modern game at medium settings. The processor is something I'm not sure about; the AMD Athlon II X3 440 looks good for the money, if the motherboard used were compatible. I recently preordered Overgrowth, so that's kind of what has me thinking I need to commit to a better system if I want to keep gaming.
On that note, Overgrowth is looking like it will be an awesome game. I've been following for a while; I was a big fan of Lugaru, although it was obviously in need of updates to bring the technical aspects up to snuff with the concept, and it looks like that's just what Overgrowth is doing. Some of the things they're talking about implementing are really impressive, and I can't wait to see where they go with the whole thing.

Has anyone heard of Scratch? It's a great little piece of software that let's you create your own flash(?) games. With an easy to use coding interface (it's very reminiscent of the LEGO Mindstorms system), it's easy and fun! It also shows how good some of those MIT students are with there spare time. I'm 1337Productions if you wanna check out some of my games.

Yeah I use to do that before I got into stop motion. It made the summer of 07 fun.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Oh my gosh, I did the exact same thing Stopped motion. That's so weird.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Thanks for posting that processor, Squash. I didn't even know triple-cores existed mini/tongue

It's only marginally more expensive than the processor I was looking at, and it's a decent bit faster along with having the extra core. I have no idea how to know if a processor is compatible with my computer or not, so I guess I'll have to do a bit of research.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I have a 5770 and i5 750 and highly recommend both for playing games at good quality.

welp

Scratch is nice. I found it a bit boring after a while, but you can do quite a lot of stuff with it. These are not flash animations/games.

Hmm, looks interesting. Downloading now.

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I have recently been playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Xbox Live. It's a pretty fun game, I am enjoying it much more than games like Black Ops.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I play it on my iPod touch, because I'm so awesome and don't have a Xbox.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

Metroid Prime Trilogy arrived today.

I love it. mini/bigsmile

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I love that they put that journalist in the game just like that, Timothy_R.

I played through Metroid: Other M recently, and I'm still trying to decide what all I thought of it. The Prime games are some of my favorite games ever and this new installment was quite different. I liked the way the game conveyed the massive amounts of firepower and such at your disposal and the sweet moves Samus pulled off.

The story was pretty good, if a bit over-the-top, though it really made the game much more linear. The graphics were rather good for a Wii title. Overall, I'd say it was a worthy addition to the series and worth picking up.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I'd recommend the following article to anyone who's played Other M or is planning to. It's sickening.

http://moonbase.rydia.net/mental/blog/g … ticle.html (Spoilers within the link)

Before reading that I was on the fence about getting it, mainly because I knew (in general) that they destroyed everything I loved about Samus, but after reading that, I can safely say I'll never buy another Metroid game if the series continues down this path.

And that's not even mentioning some of the mind-boggling design choices.

And I loved the Metroid games.

(To those that will claim that I am judging the game before playing it, I've been watching my brother play it and all my suspicions and everything I heard I discovered was true.)

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

I read so many differing opinions, more-often-than-not highly polarized, before playing that I decided I would wait until I played the game to make a judgment call. After playing it, I'd say that people really overstated things. Yes, the story is over-the-top at times, especially when it comes to internal monologues and inner angst. It certainly lacks the subtlety that the Prime Series' brilliant implementation of the Scan Visor provided. Yes, it's underdeveloped at times and at others simply a rationalization for one game mechanic or another.

Nevertheless, it made for a decently compelling narrative and fit together with the established canon in an adequate fashion. If it was a novel, I would be more critical, but it's not. The type of narrative here is a real departure for the series. I don't expect them to have gotten it all right this time around.

I actually forgot to breathe.

It's out in the UK on March 4th, USA March 6th.

Re: The Video Game Discussion Topic!

It looks pretty good I guess, but the Pokemon series has lasted waaaaaay too long.

Oh boy, I've always been hooked by Pokemon games, I don't know what it is; but it just takes me in. This one should top them all and will definitely be on my wish list.
