Sure, we'll just wave our magic wand and a 3D lego model of the RMS Titanic will be ready for you in 30 minutes.  And somehow we'll know what scale you want it to be, even though you didn't provide us that info.  And we're going to render it with a bunch of laser sharks and pirate ships with the Sydney Opera House in the background because you were vague on the shots you want.

Getting tired of you amateurs asking CGI artists to do all the work for you.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Just as a pro-tip from me to you, you might want to figure these things out BEFORE you commit to making such a film.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

CG take a good deal of time. First you would have to design the ship then you would have to get the texturing and coloring right then add animation then finally you have to render it. That all takes a while.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Think Lechnology spoke for everyone
You need to specify things
and these thing are harder than they sound
CGI isnt something that you whip up in a minute
also the learning curve for the program we mostly use isnt freindly
there isnt any simplicity in it

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Why don't you just make a miniature version of the titanic out of Lego.

I'm not exactly sure if this was referenced towards the CGI artists, or Roblego.

I agree with all of the previous comments, this isn't fairytale gaga-gaga land where we can just create virtual objects in fifteen seconds. No, this is reality, and with reality comes school, work, any other personal agenda, and our own projects, not to mention the toll of learning the simple basics of Computer Graphics. If you want my, or anyone else's, help you're going to have to be more specific about what you want in the scene, as well as giving us up to at least two weeks to get it all done. Or, you can learn CGI yourself, and go through the brutal process of learning and failure, to realize that it isn't as easy as you that it was.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Maybe it´s a bit old fashioned retro thinking, but I like a brick film that actually is a BRICK film! I have nothing against CGI, its great for fx, but I think the quality and the feel of the brick film is higher when the background, the explosions etc. is made out of bricks. I´m not a purist, but mabe a little romantic...

Maybe there should be a contest where one of the rules were: no cgi?

CGI LEGO is a joke. Find a way to make it out of physical LEGO.

Estimated 35,000 pieces used.  Let's say average cost of a LEGO piece is $0.10 US. So that's $3,500 to build a ship that size.  Now image constructing landscapes or buildings of that magnitude for your shots.  You got $3,500 to spare?  Maybe you do, Timothy, with your million dollar mansion and 10-car garage, but the rest of us don't.  We can spare a thousand on a computer and software and maybe another thousand to build the first 2 square meter of the background.  But then we'd be living off the street and starving for the next 3 months because we just spent our rent and food money on a computer and 10,000 LEGO bricks.

So Mr. Millionaire Timothy, how do you suggest we build a physical LEGO Titanic at minifig scale without breaking the bank or using--what was it that you said--the joke known as CGI LEGO?  Care to loan Roblego a couple thousand?

If he wants to use CGI and the rules allow it, let him.  How he accomplishes that is up to him and those who decide to help him.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

You were just saying how long it takes to make a CGI model, and how ridiculous it is to ask for one now, and now you're getting angry at Tim because he said not to use CGI?
Anyway, there are alternatives to CGI. A miniature is a good idea, IMO.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

You're so smart Lechnology hizhdiohzhd

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

I'm talking about money.  Both building physical and CGI sets are time consuming, but one costs more than the other to build.  I'm also talking about space.  One can take up a storage room to house, the other can be contained in a flash drive.

And I'm not angry about Tim saying no to CGI, I'm angry that he says my work is a joke without an explanation.  If it's a joke, then my monthly income from my Youtube partnership is ha-ha money.

Absolutely, miniatures are excellent alternatives to full-scale models.  It can be accomplished with both real and CGI bricks and had Rob said he wanted a scaled down version of the Titanic, it wouldn't be a ridiculous request.  It would still be a request lacking in specification, though.

My statement about the "ridiculousness" is because there's a lack of appreciation for what CGI artists have to do to fulfill these requests.  I prefer to work with someone who at least tried to build the models, provided storyboards and description, and pretty much be the director of the project with me being the CGI artist.  This is coming from experience.  You can't expect us to know what you want and do all the work for you.  At best, you provide us with the models/sets, camera and lighting positions and specs, storyboards, and 24/7 constant communication and we give you our CPU and memory and CGI skills.

I stated the "ridiculousness" of these requests not to say that you're not going to get help from us.  I'm saying you need to meet us halfway.  And the past couple of requests I've seen or gotten, only about two were able to meet halfway.  You've seen one result of that.  This thread, for example, would not be meeting us halfway without making further discussion.

And Pillow, you should spellcheck that.  It should say pissed off.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Whether you're right or wrong, doesn't matter. The point is: Don't be a !@#$.
Maybe Roblego doesn't know much about CGI, maybe he doesn't know how it works. Maybe he's not born with all there is to know about CGI.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

I agree with pillow, Lechnology everything you say is true, I myself have done a lot of CGI and I know that it takes a lot more work than Roblego and others may understand. And building a miniature titantic I agree is one hell of a project and might not be such a good idea, unless you do a miniature miniature titanic. Just don't get nasty otherwise we have no respect for your point.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

Roblego, why can't you build a mini version of the ship, that's what I'll be using.

And plus, it's 100% effective in waring off angry CGI buffs, unless they get ticked that you don't use CGI.

Re: CGI Lego Titanic Needed

That's what to was trying to say in my last post it I forgot what they were called mini/tongue But that's a very good idea Realbrick.

Don't tell the blunt contrarian how to do his job, Head Cushion.  Someone's got to tell it how it is in this place of blissful-play-nice-ness.

Btw, http://www.tugboatjobs.net/images/rms_titanic_profile_view.gif

I know it's under water, but since it's an Olympic-class ocean liner, its bow should be more vertical than what RealBrick has.
