Topic: I need a writer.

G'day.

I have a youtube series that I would like to begin this year. However, I need someone to write it. I have what I think are some fairly well developed ideas for the series however I'm not a strong scriptwriter. So, I'm posting to see if anyone would be interested in co-producing the series with me.

The basic premise is that a minifigure vlogs his life and attempted career as an actor. Episodes are in a vlog format with cuts to scenes he describes.

I'd like it to be somewhat of a drama with elements of comedy in it. If you're interested, PM me some samples of your writing. If you want more info, post in the thread.

Here are a couple of excerpts from my brainstorming...

Basic premise: minifigure vlog of his life and attempted career as an actor. Episodes are in a vlog format with cuts to scenes he describes.

The main character is a young man in his early 20's. He is a capable actor but is having trouble breaking into the industry. He does extras work for barely enough money to pay rent.

Plot idea: - Audition session is a hoax, character gets kidnapped. An episode is recorded by his friend/roomate(?) explaining the situation and asking for any help.

Whenever. I'd rather wait for the right writer to pop up than put a deadline on it and potentially miss out on that.

I had a realisation today.

Up until now, I haven't been quite sure how I want this series to "work", which obviously doesn't make it easy for people to apply as writers for it. I thank everyone who submitted a sample script, it was helpful in helping me come to this realisation.

I think I essentially want this to be structured like a sitcom such as How I Met Your Mother. HIMYM is actually a fantastic example to compare mine to - whereas most HIMYM episodes start off with the Father saying "Kids, blah blah blah" then the show flashes back tot he present day, in this series it could (most of the time) start off with the vlog entry.

Another element of a sitcom is the expansive story. Sitcoms that run for years and years obviously have to have a massive story/timeline to follow (including running jokes) and I would like this for my little series, even if the episodes are only 5-8 minutes or so.

With this in mind I don't know if anyone still wants to have a crack at it or not. My standards are high and I'm admittedly quite picky but I'd welcome any applicants.

This is a pretty big commitment you're getting into. My advice is this; if you ever feel that you wont be able to finish the series, at least make ten good episodes. Then people won't be as disappointed if you end the series prematurely.

I understand this. That's another reason I'd like to have the right writer on my side, to help me wrap things up if and when it ends without just bringing the story to a grinding halt.

I think I actually did that structure in my sample script. However, what style of humor are you exactly looking for, more of a slapstick thing, or more witty and dry?

Actually Tripod, yours was the one that I think stood out the most to me and helped me realise this. On reflection I think you actually did a pretty good job of what I'm imagining. I'll get in touch with you later (the workday is about to start for me) to discuss it further.
