Re: What was the last movie you watched?
Alice In Wonderland (2010)
OK, the plot isn't really the best. Watching it for a second time, I notice such plot-holes as 'If there is a Cake that can make you a giant, why doesn't everyone eat it before the battle?', 'if Cheshire Cat is on the rebellions side, surely he could own everyone single-handedly by turning invisible?', 'if Alice has a scroll with her on it, why doesn't no-one recognise her?' and 'why is everyone still following the scroll when Alice has completely ignored it, and the White Queen encourages her to stray off her path?'. I find it odd how there are politics in a world where nothing is supposed to make sense, and everyone's supposed to be loony. This is the one movie that requires no plot whatsoever, and just involves randomness. You would think Tim Burton would be pretty good at that...wouldn't you?
However, one thing that I love about this movie (aside from it being the first movie to have BOTH Christopher Lee and Alan Rickman - which is FREAKING AWESOME) is the Queen of Hearts. They nail her character, giving her a pretty good back-story and a plausible motive. Tim Burton is brilliant in presenting the psychology of an outcast and his movies about outcasts (Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Vincent, and Edward Scissor-hands) are by far his best pieces of work. I actually think this would have worked better if it was all about the Queen of Hearts and not just the stupid rebellion. And she is hilarious. I love how her solution to everything is "OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!" - how is that not funny?
And I didn't like the Mad Hatters split-personality. Its never used in the plot and contributes nothing apart from giving Depp more screen-time.
Oh, and I refuse to call it 'Underland' when 'Wonderland' IS IN THE BLOODY TITLE!!! Sure, if it was 'Alice in Underland' I would ignore this...but its called 'Alice in Wonderland'...so call it Wonderland!! Its like if Alice's name was changed to 'Katie'. ITS STUPID!!
