Topic: Best films of the 00s?

Make a list of your favorite films from 2000-2009!

There are a ton of gaps in this list; I haven't really seen many films at all from the past couple of years.

1. Tropical Malady (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
2. Werckmeister Harmonies (Béla Tarr)
3. The New World (Terrence Malick)
4. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Andrew Dominik)
5. There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson)
6. The White Ribbon (Michael Haneke)
7. White Material (Claire Denis)
8. Old Joy (Kelly Reichardt)
9. Ratatouille (Brad Bird)
10. A Serious Man (Joel & Ethan Coen)

Yes, I forgot about that one.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

Hmm, let's see...

The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Lost in Translation
The Lives of Others
Pan's Labyrinth
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Ratatouille
WALL-E
The White Ribbon
The Departed
Memento
Michael Clayton
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Slumdog Millionaire
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Brokeback Mountain
Batman Begins/The Dark Knight
Milk
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Inglourious !@#$%^&*
Million Dollar Baby
Star Trek
Little Miss Sunshine
Thank You For Smoking
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Superbad
Spider-Man 2

I'm sure there are plenty I'm forgetting about.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

These are ones that I personally enjoyed the most, but in no way the best:

1. Memento (back before everyone thought the sun shone out of Nolan's ass)
2. Hot Fuzz
3. Inglorious !@#$%^&*
4. The Chorus (although the ending is a bit too clichéd)
5. Lord of the Rings (its just so nerdy that its glorious!)
6. Monsters Inc (I hate Wall.E and Up. They are trying too hard to go beyond your average kids movie by being overly dramatic in my opinion. Also Monsters Inc is the last Pixar movie from my childhood, so this decision is 100% biased)
7. The Dark Knight (I personally think taking Batman too seriously is a good thing. But its just my opinion)
8. Sherlock Holmes (why didn't this get any Oscars? Oh, because the Academy were too busy orgasming over 'The Hurt Locker' mini/rolleyes )
9. Star Trek (its like a typical 00's Hollywood blockbuster...only really good. It has the signature pretty CG and loud bangs, but it doesn't have a stupid plot. Why can't more movies be like this?)
10. Pirates of the Caribbean (its mediocre on most accounts...but its just so fun! I still really enjoy it. But Number 2 is average, and Number 3 sucks)

If 2010 counted, I would have put 'The Social Network' and 'Toy Story 3' on this list.

Technically, 2010 should count, and 2000 shouldn't count.

I would say the opposite, actually. Lists like these are typically for 10 year stints, so it should be like this:

1970-1979
1980-1989
1990-1999
2000-2009
2010-2019

Re: Best films of the 00s?

Well, most of the movies I'm thinking about when I read the Thread title has been already said. I'll mention the ones that haven't been listed.

District 9
Inside Man

Can't think of others for now.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

The Dark Knight
Inception
Kill Bill vol. 1
Kill Bill vol. 2
Inglorious !@#$%^&*
The Departed
Reign Over Me
Wall - E
Zombieland
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
The Social Network

Those films aren't listen in any specific order, however my absolute favorite is:

Adventureland

I'm sure it was a quite unexpected favorite, but that film kicks major butt. It was just so d**n good, and if you haven't seen it you have to. It's awesome.

My old YouTube is since long ago defunct - now even removed.
Here is my new one.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

Donnie Darko, Kung Fu Panda, How to train your dragon, Cloverfield(which everyone hated except for me), No Country for Old Men, Inception, all the LOTR movies, and Spiderman.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

DAMN YES, Forgot about Donnie Darko and Cloverfield, I didn't hate it to.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

Hardly seen anything that new, nothing really comes to mind straight away from the last decade.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

You said Ratatouille, what about Wall-e, Up, Toy Story 3?

Used to be 'Caidence'

Re: Best films of the 00s?

In Bruges
Can't believe I forgot about it...

Re: Best films of the 00s?

In my opinion the best movies were made before any of us were born (1930s-1950s), but I must say that the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the extended addition is a must-see) was absolutely AMAZING (except when they changed the character of Faramir). mini/bigsmile

Re: Best films of the 00s?

No order:

- Amelie
- Kill Bill 1 + 2
- Inglourious !@#$%^&*
- Gran Torino
- Little Miss Sunshine
- The Hurt Locker
- Pan's Labyrinth
- District 9
- Snatch
-
The Borne Trilogy
- The Dark Knight
- Billy Elliot
- 28 Days Later
- The Departed
- Lord of the Rings
- Inception

I can't think of any others. Plus I haven't seen some of this decade's "masterpieces", like Zodiac and Memento.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

Sooo damn many.... I be updating a lot.

The Dark Knight
Superbad
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Spider-man
Children Of Men
There Will Be Blood
V for Vendetta
Iron Man
Superman Returns
The Bourne Trilogy
X-Men 2
Casino Royale
Toy Story Trilogy
Across the Universe
Star Trek
Borat
Little Miss Sunshine
Thank You For Smoking
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The last two Lord of the Rings films
The Matrix Trilogy
(500) Days of Summer

Maybe not the BEST FILMS OF ALL TIME, but these are the ones I definitely enjoyed most.
And I would put Inception, Kick-Ass and TRON: Legacy in there but those came out in 2010.

Re: Best films of the 00s?

I think pretty much everything notable has been mentioned.

I don't think anybody's posted these yet.
Requiem for a Dream
Million Dollar Baby
The Pianist
Lost in Translation
Mullholland Drive

I've heard City of God is excellent, though I haven't seen it myself.
