Re: The CGI Thread

No scripts of that nature work with 2.5
Try 2.49

Anyways, I have a problem, I can't seem to find a good LDraw to Blender python script.  Because I am on a Mac, I can't use the LeoCad to MLCad to .3DS to Blender, so I've been trying a few scripts, but none of them seem to work.  The one didn't work at all, and the other made a cube with a bunch of lines coming out of it, more if there was more bricks in the model.  If any of you know a script that can import .dat or .ldr files to blender, that would be a great help.

I'm going to assume you already have Bricksmith. Download this: it has a 3DS export option. Most of the time, you can import the 3DS file directly into Blender (I haven't figured out how to keep the imports dimensions relatively small, though, in 2.5), however, sometimes you'll get an error. When that happens, I import the file into Wings3D, export the file as an Wavefront (obj) file, and then import that into Blender.

Results may vary depending on wether you're using 2.49 or 2.5. I personally use 2.49 for importing, save it, then open it up in 2.5.

I was using 2.49.  Littlebrick, It doesn't seem to be working, but I will keep trying, although I would prefer to use a script, for convenience sake.

Have you tried this one yet?

Re: The CGI Thread

I had, but this time I decided to go into the script to change the file path, and of course, that was the problem.  It took a bit, but now the script is working.  Thanks!!

It's good, but the field of vision is off, the trees or the track up close needs to be out of focus.

Re: The CGI Thread

alright, so from what ive seen, you guys are good. Now i got problem. I'm new to blender, and i recently learned how to animate a character with bone rigging and all. All i can say is, the playback in blender looks smooth, 25 FPS. But when I render it as an animation, it becomes choppy, like it was lagging. I don't think it is lagging cuz i'm working on a top of the line desktop (not to sound arrogant, but yeah). Also, could someone tell me how to save the animation, and why the background of the render is entirely black? I would try to show you guys, but i can't save, so that sucks. I'd appreciate your feedback.

Awsome! mini/bigsmile
How did you get the smoothing so perfect?
Is there a tutorial you can link me to?

Make sure your world settings are to your prefered color.
To save your anmiation choose your format.
Choose quicktime where it says PNG and then choose H.264 for your codec.
Choose your destination and your good to go.
Your animation might be choppy due to your compression methods.

Re: The CGI Thread

Thanks, most of it worked. Except, when I play it back in blender, i moves at actual speed. When I render it, it takes, a billion times longer to finish the animation. WHY??!!

Because in Blender, you're only viewing what you've already done in-program; when you Render it, you're making Blender do everything it left out in-program, such as, well, render everything like the texture, material, mesh, stuff like that. Don't worry, it always takes a ton of time to render stuff. When you actually look at the saved file in your computer, it'll play at real-time speed.

No no, the train looks great, he just needs to simulate focusing a camera, something needs to go out of focus.

Re: The CGI Thread

Pretty nice, but maybe you could add a lens flare to the lights, and the bricks on the track seem to have no specularity mini/smile

Re: The CGI Thread

Well, BG and CardinalZenn, everything worked. I hadn't realized that when rendering the animation it is actually making the file, I thought that it just shows you what it would look like in real time and the file is created instantly. I should have known. Thanks!

As my mini-figure has been nearing completion, I've felt the need to model something I can have the mini-figure holding in renders, to justify extreme poses and stuff. So, naturally, I made a light-saber! Click the picture for full HD awesomeness.

EDIT: Now in three new flavors, with new, more accurate handle! Green | Blue | Purple | Red

For the glow, I followed this tutorial over at BlenderCookie.com. I encourage anyone who uses Blender to go check some of the other tutorials and articles on that site — it's insanely helpful.

On a side note for all SUPER members, I've got an almost finished version of the mini-figure uploaded on the SUPER forums, so please go check it out. I need feedback.

I know this is a bit of a bump, but not all cameras focus shallowly, you can have a large depth of field on a quite a few cameras.
