Topic: A Few Questions

Hello, I have a iMac and I was wondering about a few things that I am not sure about.

Q1: I don't know wich editing software is better and more simple to use, Final Cut Pro 7 or Adobe Premiere Pro CS4?

Q2: A few days ago I had iStopMotion Pro but I think my camera doesn't work with it, I use a Canon Powershot A470 and i think it hasn't PTP.
So I think the camera won't open in iStopmotion, but I also have a Nikon Coolpix S570 that has PTP but I don't know how to but the camera on PTP mode, the Nikon S570 appears in Device but isn't letting me have a live preview selected device.

It says," Still camera image sources like the selected input device, S570, are not capable of providing a live video preview. you need to manually update the preview by pressing the preview button in the transport area".

Q3: And mabye later I want to have some good 3D software, any ideas? I would like to have the effects like CGI, like Smeagol and Nick Durron are doing in there Lego films.

I am having a trouble about the technical stuff I must fix this so I can keep my work going on, I just want to go pro.
Sorry about the English, not my best side

Re: A Few Questions

I can answer Question 3. For 3D Software there is a free program called Blender. It work fine but I prefer some more expensive software. I use software from Autodesk like 3ds Max and Maya. There is also 4D Cinema which is also good.

Re: A Few Questions

Q2: I don't know how to put your Nikon into PTP mode, but the instruction should be in the manual. If you wan't a live preview, you need a webcam. The best webcam I've encountered so far for a Mac that is good for brickfilming is the iSight (100-150$). Animating without a live preview isn't that bad/difficult though.
hope that helped.

Q1: I can't say much about Adobe Premiere Pro, but I use Final Cut and love it. It integrates very nicely with Soundtrack Pro and Motion (if you use those at all).

Q2: I just ran into this problem earlier this week trying to use a Nikon D70s. For me I had to set the camera on PTP Mode first (before connecting it to the computer). I did this through the camera menu settings. From there I left the camera on and connected it to the computer.

Here is the trick. I didn't understand what iStopMotion was saying about a live view and didn't know what I was doing, but you have to use the "Preview Shot" first. Slide the little toggle under the view window to the left and you should see the shot you just took. If you like it then you can record it. What it is doing is taking an actual photo with the camera and then downloading it into iStopMotion (very time consuming if you don't have a rocket ship for a computer)....Very much a pain and would highly recommend going with the iSight as it works very well with iStopMotion. You have full control over the settings the only down fall in my mind is no zoom, and resolution is a little low (640x480).

Unfortunately for us Mac users, Logitech doesn't make drivers for Mac and so the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 that everyone highly recommends is useless to us mini/sad

Q3: Like Aquamorph said Blender is a great powerful open source 3d animation tool. (http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/). If you have never used 3d animation before or Blender, here is a great way to start (http://www.blender.org/education-help/t … -tutorial/)

Good luck
