Topic: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

ATTENTION! MY UNCEL SAM IS CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! I AM UNDERTAKING A BIGGER PROJECT AND WILL NOT BE ENTERING TOY (PROBABLY)! THE FILM WILL STILL BE MADE, IT'S JUST ON TEMPORARY HIATUS! THANK YOU!]

M]Y] U]N]C]L]E] S]A]M]

Hello, I'm working very hard on my TOY entry (like everyone else) and I thought I might create a thread for it. My film is about the American Revolution which is a rebellion that took place in colonial U.S for freedom from England. My story is called "My Uncle Sam", and it's about a young boy named Will who is trying to decide if he's a Patriot (Rebel) or a Loyalist (Not Rebel) in a town with severe consequences for both choices. A casting call is coming when I'm done with the script. There will be frames and tests posted, and feel free to voice your opinion when asked. I will try to update progress frequently, but be patient.

PROGRESS

Date-Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Still scripting. I am maybe 3/5 done with the script, with 3 days at it. I have maybe 9 scenes done, at 12 pages. This is the longest project I've undertaken. I hope to get to the climax of the story in a few days. I'm trying to get the dialogue natural for that period, and doing research to get my facts right, but it's still historical fiction. I hope to get this:

to complete the colonial village set, but I have no idea how.

Well here's something I think you might want to include in your film.
This isn't in textbooks or anything, so beware. This is a true story. During the Boston Massacre, the redcoats would shoot at whatever moved in a window, because they thought it was a sniper. So if there was one movement in a window- They'd shoot. You know who one of the people died that was at the Boston Massacre? It was an 11 year old boy. He looked out his window to see what was happening; and all he found out was his death.
History is my favorite subject, so I'd thought I'd share something that the British actually thought. I'd just thought that would be interesting (and sad) to put into your film, since it's around the revolutionary war time.

Wow, Mason. Creepy. I might include that, but the Boston Massacre takes place long before the film starts.

a thing to remember, is that just because it is about a historical event, doesn't mean that you cant tweak and push and squash and stretch it.

Not trying to be a !@#$ here, but that is a bit alienating. And I'm not going to question your knowledge of the world, but it's safe to bet everyone knows about the American war of Independence. Any how your signature has a Flag Of the United States with 50 stars on it and a Union Flag of the United kingdom with the Saint Patrick's Cross on it. Both of which were not the flags used in the American War of Independence.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

I know. Sorry.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

What Tdogg said about the flags is true, and a major historical flaw in your case. Also I'm pretty sure everybody has atleast heard of the American Revolutionary War, not only 'Americans'. So saying foreigners probably don't know about it is quite stupid. Also the term 'Uncle Sam' did not become used until the War of 1812, so if you do your math correctly is a whopping 29 years since the ending of the American Revolutionary War in 1783. Now if you want a lesson in being historically accurate in brickfilms, I did make a film a while back titled "The Revolution" which includes correct flags, costumes, marching music, and etc.

But please, before you make a film, do research, since if you don't you'll look dumb.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

The fact it's called "My Uncle Sam" is only a reference to the symbolic figurehead, I know it didn't show up 'till years later. I will fix the sig (Though in the big scheme of things does it really matter much?).  Now will you please talk about the actual film, and wait for an update? Thanks.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

I'm trying to help you, please understand that. Historical accuracy is what I look for, not some good animated brickfilm with plots based off facts you learn from 1st Grade Mini-History lessons, okay? If you do some research, it won't kill you.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

I'm doing research, thanks. What you've 'helped' me with so far has nothing to do with the actual film.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

If you're doing research, you might want to thank Kinzcove for giving you some historical context. Is more information a negative thing?

Again, I don't really need it. His logic that my film is a "Little 10-minute first grade history lesson" is flawed. Now please stop flaming me.
New sig with updated flags.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

I'm not saying your film is a "Little 10-minute first grade history lesson" it's just you can't base your film on one. It seems like you just haven't done enough research into the topic IN MY OPINION, yet you kinda are promoting the film with incorrect historical facts (flags, figureheads, terms). I'm just trying to help you, not hurt you. And correcting a mistake is not flaming you for Gods sake, it's helping you in the future.

But, whatever floats your boat. If you're going to make a historically incorrect film, then twist it majorly into Inglourious !@#$%^&* style.

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

No, thanks. mini/lol  I'll script some more tonight. I think it's gonna be better than "Small World".

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

Nice idea, but why is it named My Uncle Sam?

Do you have any sets yet?

Re: My Uncle Sam--A Revolutionary War Film For TOY

Hate to sound like a killjoy, but I don't think your story is accurate, Mason. From the research I've done, I've found that while there was an 11 year old boy killed days before the event commonly thought of as the Boston Massacre, he was actively protesting with a crowd. I think if the British troops were regularly shooting at people through the windows of their homes, Britain's role in the conflict leading up to the war would be overall regarded as far less innocent.

The reason for the title is a secret, and no, I have no sets yet.
