AboveTopSecret's forums have a hot topic on this at the moment with some interesting theories.
Most likely some unusual weather phenomenon. 
Conspiracy theory: The military is testing a special poison gas on birds because they can fly and have the feelings of a person in flight. So that when the North Koreans invade due to an assasination attempt focused on a major political figure that really has no importance whatsoever, they can gas the pilots and due to the closeness of blacking out they will be KOed thus falling to their flaming death. And as usual, America will win without any help at all, the UN will probably have a hissy fit, Canada will claim they helped out, the price of baked beans and shotgun shells will go up, and more people will go to church.
But it might just be a freak event. You never know.........................

Now that is hilarious! But if I saw one of those on the beach, I think I would run for the hillls!
New signature (clickable!) icons came out a little blurry- oh well. The music symbol leads to my music composition (which I'm currently making a song for Solid)
I also added small shadow underneath to make it more realistic.
I think it looks fine... except the music symbol... I think you should find something else...
And as for me, I've followed... whoever it was in making my avatar and sig comic related... Cyanide & Happiness... forever...
