Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Gulliver's Travels 3D

Weak story, poor pacing and no character development. There are so many different locations and scenes the creators tried to squash into the time frame that there's practically no time to breathe. Entertaining, but bad, at least from a filmmaker's perspective.
Also, Catherine Tate, James Corden and probably Billy Connolly did not belong in this film. Jack Black too.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Jack Black doesn't belong in anything, IMHO.

Except Kung Fu Panda. That was okay.

You really love to hate certain actors, eh Littlebrick?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Paul Blart: Mall Cop
I thought it was actually pretty funny. Overall, it's just a stupid comedy, but it had it's moments. The only thing was that they used alot of cussing for a PG movie. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.

School Of Rock begs to differ.

Tron Legacy

Oh wow. I'm amazed. This was the first time a film has completely excited me in years. The visual effects were unfathomable, they were so massive and comlex and basically, breath taking. This was rythmically and (IMO) emotionally aided by the pulsing and inspiring music by Daft Punk, in fact, it's hard for me to describe my feeling from hearing this nostalgic and flat out epic soundtrack. It has succeeded in tying for first place with Star Wars The Empire Stirkes back as my favourite movie. See this movie. Well worth the money. I may go see it several more times.

I used to like that film a lot, but I think it gets corny at times. It's like Sean Penn wanted to use every weird trick available; fake home movies, writing on the screen, music, voiceover, etc. It's a good watch, though.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

It was weird to see Vince Vaughn act and not be annoying at the same time.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Total Recall

I thought it was brilliant. Second from Terminator 2, I would say it's the best Arnie film I've seen. Pretty gory, but the storyline was very well thought out, and I loved the action in it. One of my favourite films.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

"Thats your wife?"
"Yeah"
"What a B**ch"

I just love Arnies expression and gesture he makes when she says that. For all those who say Schwarzenegger cannot act, just watch this movie.

I would make a Favourite Movies of 2010 list, but I have not seen that much this year - and I have yet to see 'Inception' and 'Tron: Legacy' - which I have heard mixed reviews. The Radio Times didn't like Inception....but then again, the Radio times hates anything mainstream (Does Night Owl run it?) And some people appreciate Tron for what it is: a dumb popcorn movie with pretty visuals and awesome music (which I have listened to...and it is the best soundtrack of the year IMO). Personally, I am SICK of those kind of movies. I dont think I will see Tron, simply as it has been hyped as 'The Next Avatar'. And as a lifelong and dedicated Avatar hater, I'm out.

My list would most likely be topped by 'The Social Network', with 'Toy Story 3' close-by. 'The Expendables' may just make it in since whilst it may be a dumb action movie - its a very good dumb action movie. And anything that has Arnie in it gains one hundred cool points for me...even if he is in it for 2 seconds.

Also, I quite liked Harry Potter 7.5. It was well shot, well edited, and the best translation to screenplay since Number 2. The problem was that due to all the crappy movies before hand barely following the books, a load of plot-threads that are vital to the story had to be shoe-horned in due to the crappy movies before hand forgetting to mention them. Dobby comes out of no-where because no-ones mentioned him since Number 2, even though he's appeared in every book apart from Number 3. Kreacher, Bill & Fleur, Wormtail, Lucius Malfoy, the Story about the Gaunts Ring, Godrics Hollow, Bathilda Bagshot, and Scrimgeour also come out of no-where due to the previous films blunders. Since none of the confusion comes from this movie....I really like it. And I still want to kiss whoever had the genius idea of splitting this movie into two, since it has greatly improved the quality because of this.

I also didn't see 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World', nor 'Kick A$$' because I can only really go to the cinema with my parents since my local cinema has exactly 2 screens, each showing something I am not the least bit interested in, and the nearest one with anything decent is a 15 min drive away (I cant drive, and getting the train would be way too much effort and money)  - and none of my friends are interested in seeing anything with the slightest bit of talent in it.

Worst movies? I had the incredible fortune of not seeing 'The Last Airbender', and judging from what I've heard about it - I've managed to save what is left of my sanity by avoiding it. I avoided 'Twighlight' for obvious reasons, and the Asylum never shows movies around here meaning the only way I can catch them is on the Sci-Fi...or SyFy (?) Channel. And besides, after 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus'...I dont need to suffer any-more torture from that bunch of abominations...

True Grit (2010)
Finally got to see it, and it was worth the wait. The movie was fantastic. Great acting, I loved it.

Also, it was hilarious when Jeff Bridges kicked the Indian kids.

Ugh, it only comes out in February in Belgium mini/rolleyes  And add a spoiler bar.

Inception

Brilliant.

I finally got round to seeing it, and I loved it, it's the first time in ages (excluding TS3) I've watched a movie, and completely loved it..

One thing:

The "totem" thing was a bit unrealistic, because who picks up a dice and remembers exactly how heavy it is?

I can't think of any other flaws at the moment, although I know I saw some while watching, so maybe I'll edit my post later...

I guess it depends on how heavy the dice is, you'd remember a dice that weighs 10 KG or something.

....

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows p. 1
Ok Harry Potter film, not the best and not the worst of the series. I just think it was pretty similar to LOTR though I mean:

Spoiler (click to read)

They have an object that influences you in a negative way when having it and that has a will of it's own (HP: The amulet, LOTR: The Ring), and they must destroy it to end a 'dark ruler' (HP: Voldemort, LOTR: Sauron). That's pretty much what the movie is about.
And there was one line that was a complete ripoff. It was something like "This will give you light in a darker time". (HP: The light sucking device, LOTR: the bottle that gave light in the scene with Aragog)

Arthur's totem was a loaded die, which means that the die itself has been tampered with to produce a specific result more times than not. It's not so much the weight of the die that matters, it's if the die produces the same result on a frequent basis.

The King's Speech

Good, though a bit formulaic. The film's strength mostly comes from the performances by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, who are marvelous together.

Yes... My sisters got me to watch it.
I must admit: I liked it.
Very Sad ending.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I'm redoing my Tron Legacy review.

Tron Legacy

I watched this in Imax 3D and by far it was the most dazzling movie experience I've ever seen. I hope I do not sound like an inexperienced movie watcher by saying that. I personally am a fan of pre-2000 movies. Anyways, as I was saying, this sequel far succeeds it's predecessor.

Pros:

Visual effects were breath taking.

The musical score by Daft Punk was unforgettable, inspiring, I found myself caught up in the rhythmic, pulsing techno beats.

The next pro may surprise you:

The story. Most people haven't seen the previous film so they may not notice the plot 'quotes' due to a lack of a better word, also, I thought there were a lot of new elements that they brought in that really astounded me. Like the ISO's, that was new and interesting. The Light fighters, and light buggies were new concepts, I liked that.
The return of the solar sailer was nostalgic.

The acting was pretty nice, Garrett Hedlund was above par, he sort of channeled Anakin Skywalker a bit, but I think he did a great job. Olivia Wilde was awesome. Look's nice in vinyl. mini/tongue (She looks nice anyways. What am I talking about?)

Action:

EPIC EPIC EPIC. (You've now witnessed a professional sample of a review.)

Script:

I don't see how people dislike the dialogue. I thought it was fine. Most people were vexed by the borderline cliche sayings that were present. Most of which were uttered by Flynn. But you have to remember, he's been stuck in the Grid for thirty years, unaffected by the trends of the changing world he previously inhabited. So his speech is still anchored in 1989.

Cons:

Visual Effects: Flynn's face.

There were some points that it looked almost flawless, mostly when it's just normal dialogue, but when he's shouting, things get a little creepy.

So besides these, I didn't find anything wrong with this film. I thought it was a dazzling, breathtaking, one of a kind spectacle of filmmaking.

The Matrix

First time watch for me. Wow, it was brilliant. I still favour Total Recall over this, but I can see why everyone talks about this. Another favourite to add to the list. The action was amazing.
