Topic: USB Driver Problems

I was in chat yesterday trying to find some solutions to my recent dilema, but unforutnately the solution didn't seem to come up.

Anyway my webcam (Quickcam Pro 9000) when the USB is plugged into the computer, the computer makes a sound from the speakers (as if the USB is being plugged in), but then when I go to look for it in MonkeyJam or even in my QuickCam software! It also doesn't show up in the Control Panel, Printers and Cameras category. I've tried all my USB drives and all seem to have the same problem, but when I plug in my USB spare hardrive the computer runs it just fine.

I also can plug the QuickCam into another one of my computers and it works just fine (and I would use that computer, but it doesn't have a sound card or all of the QuickCam software, so it doesn't work so well for animating) Anyway this led me to believe it had nothing to do with the camera itself. (i.e. the cord, camera itself, etc.)

My setting for Firewall also should allow it to work perfectly fine, but I still have a problem. The logitech 'Help' section wasn't much help to me either. If anyone has a solution they'd be able to share that'd be great since I need my QuickCam for THAC. If not I've got a solution although I'm not sure it will work. mini/sad

So in short the webcam works on one computer, but not the other. One the defective computer other USB items still work, just not my camera. I'm not sure what else doesn't work, but I know both of my hardrive type devices work in the deficient computer.

Hm, on my old PC laptop this sort of thing happens in one of the USB plug-ins. The only help I could give is that maybe, if you have more than one USB plug-in, try plugging it into the other one. Sometimes, when I try to plug in my QuickCam, or even a flashdrive, the QuickCam doesn't hook up, and the flashdrive doesn't light u pin that slot.

If you try using a different port though and it still doesn't work, then it's far beyond me.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've tried all the other USB plug-ins last night, but it was to no avail. Maybe I'll try unplugging everything and then plugging it all back in. That seems to work from time to time for some odd reason. mini/blankexpression

Somehow I doubt it will work though.

Did you install the drivers before you plugged it in? I can't remember the exact process for installing the QC, but with some devices, if you plug them in before prompted by their software, Windows will install its own drivers and muddle everything up. Check under Hardware and Devices or Device Manager, and see if anything on your computer has a little mark signifying that the drivers installed incorrectly. From there, it's just a matter of figuring out if that's your Quickcam. There should be a device ID that you can copy and paste into google that will tell you. If you did find it, I would (make sure you have removed the Quickcam): remove the messed up driver from device manager, reinstall the drivers given to you by Logitech, and plug in the camera only when prompted.
Just make sure you know you are removing the Quickcam drivers; you wouldn't want to uninstall something more important.

If that's not the problem, I have no idea.

The Control Panel says it has the Logitech Driver installed. If I can find the installation disk (I've had the software installed for well over a year or two) then I'll try re-installing it. I've used the camera before, but that was almost a year ago. Maybe some of the software has changed, but that still wouldn't explain why the camera wouldn't show up anywhere in the My Computer 'folder'.

Even without the software shouldn't the camera still appear in the Printers & Cameras part of the Control Panel? It does on my less defective computer, but it won't even show up on the computer I need. Go figure.
