Re: LEGO CRASHERS (new comm project) PRE-PRODUCTION THREAD

And besides, they don't need to crash Taylor Swift's wedding, Kanye West's got it covered.

Re: LEGO CRASHERS (new comm project) PRE-PRODUCTION THREAD

Hazzat wins.

BTW, were you trying to make that script an over-the-top British stereotype?

lolz.
If we do pull together a com project, it would have to be a much, much more epic storyline then "crashing a canadian singer's and a psudo-country singer's wedding", you know?

Talking about the amount of respect you do or don't have won't engender more.

Re: LEGO CRASHERS (new comm project) PRE-PRODUCTION THREAD

Time to enter the fray.

Community projects are at their best when they're not telling one solid storyline, with different scenes animated by different people. To start with, the organiser offers an idea for the project and the community chips in with ideas and then the script is written (if, indeed, there is a script at all). The work done by each animator should be kept to a minimum, seeing as people have their own projects to worry about. You have to admit to yourself that your project will probably be taking a back seat among your participants' interests.

A community project feels most like a project by the community if it is made using lots of isolated characters, each being animated by a different person. Otherwise it may as well just have been one long film by a single person and there's no point in it being a community project.

I don't think you have to have been on the site for a long time to start a project, but your attitude and the impressions other members have of you are what count. Sean, for example, was showing off his maturity right from the start. Constructive posts, correct grammar and generally being friendly will go a long way.

You've got off on the wrong foot here, so I'd leave this project behind if I were you and try a more thought-through one later.

I win?

Re: LEGO CRASHERS (new comm project) PRE-PRODUCTION THREAD

Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.

I'm going to throw in my two cents on this. Firstly, this whole project appears to be simply the result of an ill-advised bet. Question - why should the brickfilming community support you in this bet?

The idea for the project honestly doesn't look that fantastic on paper, so to speak. You might be able to create the film yourself, but it's not really suited to a community project. As Hazzat pointed out, a community project works best when it is made up of separate "chunks", each created by a different person in their own style. Check out The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed and you'll see what we mean.

The premise for a community project must be vague and loose enough that people can have some freedom with it. In the case of "The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed", the whole premise is right there in the title - a website crashes, the film shows people's reactions to it. Short, simple and sweet. Comparing that to your proposal, you obviously have the entire thing thought and planned out (or of not completely, almost) which as has been stated, immediately takes out the community aspect of it.

If you want to create this film yourself, go for it. No one is here to tell you what you can and cannot do as far as your own personal projects go. But as you've already seen, the people this community is made up of are all individuals who have their own style, their own ideas, their own projects. If you want to get those individuals to gather together and pump out another community project such as "The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed", you need to give people freedom.

My advice? Fold 'em.
