Topic: Securing your set

Just wondering what people use to secure their sets when animating? I've often experienced situations where the set is moved by an unintentional arm movement or just using to much force when positoning and animating an object. I usually use a bunch of different stuff depending on size etc. for instance blu-tak under the plates, or just duct taping them to the tabletop. What do you guys think are the best techniques for securing your set to eliminate the risk of moving it? What works best in your experience?

Re: Securing your set

I put a bit of sticky tack under each corner of my large baseplate, and that works quite well.

^^^^ that's all?!?! ^^^^

i use lots of blue tack - tons on masking tape mini/smile that works well

Re: Securing your set

I just makes sets that are really big and heavy, and they can't really move much that way unless you aren't careful. But I don't really ever have a problem with it moving. I really need some blue tack someday. I hear it's good. lol

Re: Securing your set

What is funny, is that I just use regular tape and I don't have too much trouble, but I really need to start using sticky tack soon.

I find that this works fairly well. But you MUST GET ADHESIVE PUTTY. NOT REGULAR PUTTY!! Regular putty sticks to everything and is hard to remove. Adhesive putty is easy to remove. It comes off in one pull and if some stays all you need to do is swipe another piece of it over the remainder and it comes off. It is white, is reusable, and is available at Office Max.

Bottomline: PICK ADHESIVE PUTTY!!!!!!

/me looks at ZP's videos.

Yeah, a bit seems sufficient enough.  No need to buy 10 packs of tack and tape when a pinch of tack is enough.

Yeah seems like everyone agrees sticky tack/blu-tak/adhesive putty is the way to go. And it's cheap.
...And I guess having a sturdy desk won't hurt either mini/tongue

Re: Securing your set

Well, if the base is bent/warped (like mine) I sometimes have to go all out and duck tape it to the table.
Usually sticky tack works fine, but it needs to be new. (IOW, resupply your supply of sticky tack at least every 2 years. mini/wink )

Re: Securing your set

Something I like to do if I can, is secure my camera rig to the set. that way if the set is slight moved or bumped, the camera will move with it and the bump will not be noticeable.

Why couldn't you have said it in a way that doesn't use so many exclamation marks?

"Hey, I think you should use white adhesive tape instead of blue tac and sellotape. It'll probably help you."

Is that so hard?

I use plasticine and duck tape to secure my sets. ^_^

Just kidding lol.

But why am I in dire need to use white adhesive tape when sellotape works perfectly?

Re: Securing your set
