Topic: L.C.I - LEGO Crime Investigation (New Series!)

Introduction

Ah, my first actual Brickfilming project. I've been inspired from many other people's projects such as Mobiledeli's, SlothPaladin's Inter-dimensional Adventures, and many others. So I was brainstorming recently as to what ideas have yet to be done, and so I stumbled across the idea of a Crime Investigation series involving Minifigures. I thought why not make a duo of freelance working Sleuths?

Progress

So far I've started scripting and finished the main set (An entire canal filled with cafes, fishing boats, banks, etc. Here's some recent pictures, it's taken how long to make, but between one thing or another I've actually finished it.

Equipment

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and I'll be posting updates on how I'm doing, and what's going on. As for the equipment I'll be using, well here's a list.

  • Editing - Final Cut Express
    Capture - iStop-motion
Camera - Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

I'm getting the Quickcam any day now and will start on various tests, like better walk-cycles, running, fight sequences and more. I'll be animating at 18 Fps, and 15 Fps depending on the scene and the actions within. A casting call will be up soon as well, with auditions for characters like the main two, P.I. (Private Investigator) Patrick and Detective Davis, the robbers, Gill, Bill, and Marmaduke Sebastian. Plus guest star appearances and minor characters as well. That's all for now!

Also, any ideas for crimes in upcoming episodes?

Very interesting set there.  Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: L.C.I - LEGO Crime Investigation (New Series!)

I don't believe the 9000 will work on a mac LegO. Other than that, interesting idea! Also nice set you got there mini/wink

Re: L.C.I - LEGO Crime Investigation (New Series!)

Thanks for the feedback! Trying some very simple tests at the moment with my present camera, nothing worth publishing, but I think I may be finally perfecting the walk cycle. It's taken me long enough, but it looks nice now with a few tweaks.

Mhm... yeah, that's a bit of a gamble. I think I may have a way of using it on my Mac, but if it doesn't quite work then I'll most likely be getting Windows 7 to use boot-camp, and then you know the drill. NXT does it.

You know, they have a version of the QCP9000 made espesially for Mac users.

Looking good LegO, any hints on the plot for the first episode? mini/eh

The Mac version doesn't have manual focus, i think.

Update
OK, just a quick update. The script is almost complete now and the characters have been made, and I'll hopefully have images up soon. I don't want to hint the plot just yet until I start actually animating, however I do have some good news!

I've been contacting a few people and so far, though their characters aren't yet decided, I'll be getting Jargon, BertL, Scypax, in for more major roles, and Jay Silver to guest star. I'll be editing the main post in a hour or so with other characters that people can audition for.

Re: L.C.I - LEGO Crime Investigation (New Series!)

Yeah DO not Get the Logitech quickcam for Mac. It is extremely difficult to animate with because it only has autofocus. But that is an amazing set! And an amazing Idea. Nice Job.

Update
Animation will start tomorrow after a rather long wait on the script. I'll be posting only a few tests and minor clips which might make it in however. Planning on posting some bios and stuff too. Here's the villainous characters.

Marmaduke Sebastian, a nasty criminal with a brutal attitude and an afro. This gang leader will stop at nothing to bring chaos to town, however his crimes are usually committed by his half-wit henchmen.

Bill, one of Marmaduke's henchmen, Bill's got all the right moves, pity he's so disinterested in his job. He lets his partner do most of the work, but if he's in danger he can pack a punch.

Gill, a brainless feeble character who can't even put 2 and 2 together. He's very enthusiastic, but his forgetful mind costs Marmaduke many crimes. However Gill will always stay loyal to his boss.

Re: L.C.I - LEGO Crime Investigation (New Series!)

Hi LegOpinions!

Sorry I took so long to get back to you, but I've rather busy lately.
I know you probably have already started animating your movie, but I looked at your pics and videos and I think you have
some pretty good stuff here.
Your set looks very detailed and original and you should be able to get some great shots using it.
The movies have pretty solid lighting, I didn't notice much flickering at all.
There is some room for improvement in your animation, but it is actually quite good considering that this is your first real project.  (I mean, everyone has to start somewhere, right?);)
For the audio, I would suggest carefully going over the video, and syncing the sound as close as possible to the video. (But then again, I am very picky about audio, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to, it's just that good audio will make a movie, even with bad animation, seem much better).
I use a program called TrakAxPC, which suits my audio needs perfectly! (BUT it is only for Windows and it costs $25,:(   but I think it is well worth it.)
Again, you've got some great stuff here, and I'll be keeping my eye out for the movie(s)!
