Yeah that is a significant improvement. Hopefully there will be something going on in the foreground of this shot? The Extended plane of gray baseplates visible due to the 35 mm lense and framing makes it a little too empty looking - it's generally good to have three main fields of depth - a foreground, midground, and background. If you could just put another car or a lamppost or something close to the camera that could fill it out nicely, I think.

I doubt I spent much longer than an hour on the main building in the shot, and the smaller ones took much less time. However, it may have taken more than ten hours to set up the scene and get it to where it is now.

That seems like a pretty good building time to me. But yeah, getting lighting and setup just right is what takes a lot of time. I spent the better part of 3 days on the matte painting for the wide shot of the Beached Whale in Unrenewable.

Ok, here's a test shot from a walking test i did a few weeks ago..... this style will be used in my upcoming project.
I'm still trying to decide on my rain effect, this is Tinderbox Rain (AE CS3 Plug in) I think it looks a lot better than the AE standard CC Rain, which just looks like little lines drawn on the screen. And I'm not happy with how my detonation films stock rain was blending either. I feel this blends better, but am still working on fine tuning my rain selection.

It's hard to say whether the rain effect works without seeing it in motion. I'd try lowering the contrast a little on the image though - rain generally falls on overcast days when the light quality is poor.

It looks kind of futuristic imo. The rain effect looks pretty good; I'm eager to see it in motion.
I think CC Rain looks somewhat better than that. To me your effect gives the impression of some kind of snow. Rain usually isn't so perfectly straight, and drops are more easily discernible. If I were doing a rain effect, I'd use CC Rain with a little vector blur to soften it.
Ok, I've got all my lego and animation stuff setup in my dorm now, after building my set here's my first test shot completed earlier tonight. (And yeah I see the white foam core on the right 
)

the set took about 2 hours to build and used all of my brown bricks, all of my red 1x bricks, all of my red roof tiles, all of my good windows, and all of my green base plates (there are a few road plates not seen in the above shot). The AE work took about an hr.
i'm still a little unsure about your rain effect. Can we see a clip with motion?
Wouldn't that be giving away to much
I'm still working on it, and nothing is set in stone yet, but it's working well with the rain audio track.

The house's lighting looks off. Try adding a street light and put the effects in that way, so the house isn't self-illuminating.
That was great. How did you do the chroma key?
Better question: How did you manage to distinguish the greenscreen from the green floor and window panes? Because I wouldn't have used a greenscreen unless I wanted to go through the pain of keying out the greenscreen without keying out the green elements I want to keep. I probably use a bluescreen instead to save the trouble.
