Topic: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Well, I've been trying to do some animation lately, but I'm finding that my bricks are very shiny, causing reflections of my camera, my arm, or whatever. The reflection of my arm is the biggest progress, because obviously, I move. Anyone have any techniques to 'dirty up' my bricks or get rid of the reflections? Thanks.

Protip- Scratch them

Anyway, one thing I do is lower the contrast in post production or fiddle with the lighting before taking the shot. I usually put one "base lamp" behind the bricks, and another one behind the camera with a piece of paper on it. It works pretty well for me.

Make sure your wearing a dark shirt.

Used to be 'Caidence'

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

this just happened to me today! after finding this out, i put on a dark shirt, like TBDude said, but i could still see my reflection- this was because i had my sleeves rolled up. make sure that you were a dark long sleeve shirt, and don't roll up the sleeves. mini/wink

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

None of those have worked.

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Simple, turn the set so it's facing a wall or simple backdrop, or even better put up a black curtain-like barrier between the set and a visible object. And try to use a better angle if the camera sees itself.

Aaand how's that supposed to help? mini/tongue

Personally, I love the reflections on my LEGO. It gives it a more LEGOish feeling YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING

But if you don't want reflections, I'd suggest turning off the lights. mini/wink

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

i scratch my bricks, but last time i mentioned that people started to make fun of me about it, anyway that could work or i just make them wear out so they don't shine, you know what i mean?

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Put paper over your lamps to diffuse the light.

If that doesn't help, you  have some freaking shiny bricks.

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Bring your lamps closer to your set and diffuse them more. If the light from the lamps is in the way you won't get a reflection of you.

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

i put my lamps far away from my set facing the other direction, then i just turn up the 'gain' control of my webcam all the way- that's how i get a good quality- and no reflection (if i wear dark clothes)

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Angle the set so it reflects something that doesn't move.

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

dampen your light with a sheet of paper. Softens the light and reduces the amount of reflection, though lego is still shiny.

...Sorry mum.

Re: Reflections off of Shiny Bricks

Never be directly behind your camera. Another thing that helps is to never have your set be just a wall. Put some furniture in front of it for an interior scene or doors and windows for both interior and exterior.

Use really old, beat up LEGO bricks. mini/smile
