Topic: Animation software question

I have bought an animation software. I am to understand that in order to animate with it I have to connect my digital still camera (while taking frames) in to my computer. How am I to do such a thing and would it be easier to use a video camcorder?

The software I have is a frame capturing software simply called stop motion animator. It designed so that you plug your camcorder or web cam in to your computer so you can simply press enter and it will take a photo for you. However I want to know if I can plug my digital still camera in to my computer and if so how I could go about doing that.

I have a Cannon power shot A720.

Welcome to BiM! In order for people to be able to help you, you need to provide some more details. What is the software called?
If it is a frame capturing software, Not many still cameras will work with it but most camcorders should and webcams. What cameras do you have?

I would recommend connecting to your computer via FireWire. Now don't know much about this edition of Powershot, but from what I understand from a little research, the connectivity ports on your camera are USB 2.0(Hi-Speed), and AV out. Seeing that it has no FireWire output, I can only assume that this would not work.

What you might try is connecting it to your computer with the USB cable and try to capture with that.
If that doesn't work, you could try getting a hold one of these babies:

An AV to USB adapter doohickey.

If none of these work(ed), your last resort might be just to import the pictures from an SD/equivalent card to your computer by means of an SD card reader.

USB is a beautiful thing!
I would say get a webcam. But that's just me.
