Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Only a fifteen second animation needed from each animator? I guess I'll do one. I'm not sure if I even have a tan 1x2 tile though. :S

Again, if you don't have a sock nor a tan 1x2 tile, you can still participate as long as you don't show the piece, i.e. have scene where it is just the opening of the gift and the reaction to the gift, no pulling the gift out for all to see.

Yup, I only read the first three or four posts, then posted. Now I've read the past page so I think I understand. mini/smile

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

To inspire creativity, here's a list of possible gift-giving situations (some of which have been mentioned already):

Christmas
Birthday
Mother's day
Father's day
Valentines
I'm sorry
Get well soon
Graduation
Easter
Bar mitzvah
Baby shower
Bridal shower
Wedding
Christening
End-of-year (or project) bonus
Retirement
Housewarming
Summer/Winter Solstice
Inheritance
Aid package

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Here's just a thought.  Should we have the gift be given for the first and last time in the film as a Christmas present?  If some of us choose to do holidays, like Valentines Day, Easter, Mother's Day, etc., should they be shown in the same order as real life?  This might help give the circular feel we want.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Unless, of course, there are a whole lot of animators in which case Christmas comes around twice. But the circular idea would give it a great closure.

I'm not sure about BG's passing the present idea. I quite like the simplicity of opening the box, seeing the reaction, then returning to black again as it is re-wrapped. It might become a bit disjointed though, so I can see the need for transitions.

Don't forget all the little events like:
Yard Sales
Pawn Shops
Secret Santa
Hobo Digging in the trash.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Thanks Jay.

I think the whole circular year of exchange with Christmas being the beginning and end point is a good idea.  Therefore, participants should start coming up with their scene ideas ASAP and post them so we know what scenes are already covered and what needs to be covered.

The best time I see BG's idea working is when there's a change in the pace of the music (like a rapid piano section).  Of course that depends on the music.  I've emailed Kevin MacLeod but I doubt we'll get him on time.  If no one else has a music suggestion, I'll narrow it down to the 2-3 tracks I've mentioned.

Also, I'm making the deadline for primary scenes (common gift-giving events) to be done by December 4, 2010.
Deadline for additional scenes and for backup animators would be December 20, 2010.

Also, if you guys can provide me with your production logo (highest resolution possible), I want to create a collaboration logo similar to how LotL did it with his collaboration film.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Sorry for the many questions, but what aspect ratio will the final film be?  Also, should we do any editing before our clips are handed off to you?

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

These questions are good because they are important factors to make clear.

I personally want to see HD resolution 16:9 but unless everyone agrees to it, it'll probably be 4:3 (I'm assuming everyone can achieve HD resolution (1280x960).

Discuss.

I would prefer 16:9.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I think I have to back out of this, I just have no time to animate at all, sorry.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I really enjoy 16:9, however, the QuickCam Pro 9000 can only go up to 1600 X 900 I believe. However, I might be wrong, and if I am then I'm fine with 1280 X 960.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

With MonkeyJam, you can go up to 1600 with QuickCam so we can do 1280x720 (16:9). The 960 was for 4:3.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

The quickcam goes to 1600x1200 in monkeyjam, you can just crop it to 1600x900 after.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Hmm, but can all of you produce 1600x900 resolution?

Anyways, Jay sent this to me and for those of you who are still unsure what the shots should look like, look at the POV shot when the "monster" opens the last present (the Cartoon Network present).  It doesn't have to be a reverse bird's eye view or an extremely low angle shot, just low angle in general.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I'm going to do some tests and post them, just to give you a feel of what I'm going for, and what my animation is like. Also do have to show the present been given to somebody else, or is that were the magic of transitions comes in?

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Hm, you do want us to have our first test shots in by December 4th, or our first final shot in by then? Also, I'm going to go ahead and film in 1600 by 900, and if you want to change it you can always make it less if you want to Lech.

I'm also going to assume that you're doing all the editing and post production work Lech?
