Topic: Free Music Making Software

I'd like to compose my own music, and use a program to make it into completed audio. Kinda like GarageBand except for Windows. I looked around a bit, but most softwares of this type aren't free. If there's any free program you know of that would suit this purpose, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me. mini/smile

Re: Free Music Making Software

Ah..

It looks like we have a problem then..

Re: Free Music Making Software

Good luck finding a free one, seeing as Garageband isn't free. The first non-free program that comes to mind is Cubase, but I couldn't tell you the price range on that.

Audacity is probably the best free audio editing software, but it doesn't make music - you have to record it with real instruments.

Sibalius ( I believe it is spelt) is a music composing software for windows and has a very large viriaty of instruments pre instaled. I use it for my music GCSE and it is fantastic.

Next time (sorry if this is off topic, this is just a little lesson) just click the edit button on your post. it should be in the corner where the report, and quote is. i just felt like saying this to teach you not to make big mistakes on the forums... which i have done... mini/blankexpression . Any ways... welcome to BiM, Flash code! but thanks for that software! i'll look into it because i need a software which makes music too...

Sibelius is massively expensive. Not free.

For free music making, I can suggest several things.

MuLab Free http://www.mutools.com/downloads.html (I haven't used it per se - I used MuTools Luna for a while. It wasn't bad, although I'm still using Muzys 3 still for my main work, probably just out of habbit more than anything).

Ardour is very good, if you're running OSX or Linux. LMMS doesn't look too bad either. Unfortunately for you most the comprehensive free DAWs are for Linux (Ardour, Rosegarden, Qtractor etc...).

For VST instruments, it's always worth browsing http://www.vst4free.com/ and KVR Audio.

If it's just pure audio you're after, you can't go too far wrong with Audacity.

I hope this helps a little bit.
