Picture edits have always been a part of the Caption Contest. The original reached 1000 pages, so your argument is invalid.

By dieing I meant it wasn't funny anymore 
People were complaining that the caption contest losing it's charm after no more than 600 pages of the first one. Read it in chronological order; the first few hundred pages are pure gold, but after that finding a funny joke becomes finding a needle in a haystack. I was hoping we'd improve with this site, but if we keep editing images it will have that final nail hammered into it's coffin.
