Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Yeah, it seems to me it would be tough to convey that it was the same gift being passed along if we don't actually see what it is.
Plus, it could up the humor if a suitable item was chosen.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

It'll be in the dialog.

Plus, the first 3 or so exchanges should establish that we're following the one present.  This would mean that someone or a collaborative team should cover the opening sequence and the first 3 exchanges as well as the last sequence.

Problem with seeing the gift is that it would mean excluding people who don't have a particular piece, unless we all have a sock 1x2 tile piece.

One compromise here would be if we changed the premise.  Instead of a music montage following the adventures of a nameless regifted object, it would be a music montage highlighting the negative effect of regifting stuff people don't want or just receiving crappy gifts in general.  My plan at the end of the montage was a message somewhere along the lines of "This year, don't regift, just give us cash."

I'm opened to the compromise premise because the main focus is how people react, not the gift itself.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Well, since you bring up socks, they're rather inexpensive (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp? … ;colorID=2) and available in a low-cost set that's available right now (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=4736-1). Plus they're kind of universally reviled as gifts.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Well how about this, the sock appears every so often but not in every scene, the camera POV would be from the box the socks came in.  This way, folks who don't want to pony up the pennies (plus shipping and handling) for a sock tile will cover non-sock scenarios and those who do will cover sock-in-scene scenarios.  That way, everyone gets included (assuming quality of animation is acceptable).

A Tan 1x2 tile would also work.

That sounds like a good solution.

I'd like to apply for a shot. Here's some of my best work. (Skip to the part when the guy goes outside.)

I like the sock idea.  I always hate getting socks and underwear mini/shifty for presents.  I'll join this if I meet the standards.  Here's my latest film:

I'm currently working on a Halloween film that probably won't be finished in time due to school and work, but I believe my animation, and camera movements, are even better in it.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Ah yes, Larrygitis and The Dandelion, those's definitely satisfies the standard.

I'll be updating the first post and adding a list of participants.  Check back in a few hours.

I would like to be part of this too.
Here is an example of my animation

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

As long as no one else catches that mini/wink.

First post updated with some revision to the Collaboration and a participant section.

We still need a song/music track.  This would be a great opportunity for brickfilm musicians to take part in another collaboration effort but I might be overreaching.

Briefly going through incompetech.com, "Monster Promenade", "Enter the "Party", Hot Swing" have the bass feeling I envision for the mood.

"Tango de Manzana" has the accordion that I tend to hear in commercials like Bertolli or something where the mood is either depressing or negative yet bright at the same time.

Curb Your Enthusiasm's Theme also comes to mind.

Anyways, let's hear some suggestions.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I would also love to be a part. Here's something I animated yesterday. I would recommend having people PM you their auditions from now on, so the thread doesn't become a wash of 'Here's my animation / Can I join?' questions.

Regarding music... Itty Bitty 8 Bit?

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

This is blowing my project out of the water. I'm actually quite disappointed in some ways, as my idea produced no such feedback, and even though this has a very similar way of doing it, it seems everyone prefers this.

And so I think I'll cancel mine. Good luck with this, anyway.

I'll be back animating soon! Exams and computer faults are keeping me away </3

Community projects work better the less the participants have to do.

Hazzat, you're in.  Itty Bitty 8 Bit doesn't feel right to me, but keep on suggesting.

As per Hazzat's suggestion, please inform me via pm if you're interested.  This thread will be about scene assignments and song/music selection.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Okay, had to update the first post, now to business.

Priorities

  1. Assigning an animator or animators to the Opening Scene and Closing Scene.

  2. Compile a list of scenes that everyone is doing (primarily to encourage a diversity of holidays/giftgiving events)

  3. Create a Collaboration team for the opening sequence (A gives to B, B regifts to C, C regifts to D) to make the Regifting premise clear.

  4. Finding the right song/music.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I know I'm rushing a bit ahead, but I have a (somewhat good) idea for a shot, around right before Person X gives back the sock to person B. It's somewhat of a continuing shot, but it's kind of hard to explain, so I'll make a quick video of it in Blender. Not sure if it would work or not, but it might get across the point of people not wanting the present. I'll have it up in a few hours.

It's having extreme problems uploading to YouTube though.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

Ahhhhhh, finally got it! Here it is.

Of course, it be much slower, and the people wouldn't always walk straight to the other person's door. Also, the scene could melt from one to the next as the next person goes to the door. Remember though, I'm not saying this is what the movie should consist of, I'm saying that it might be a good idea for later on in the film, right before person B gives back the present to person A.

Re: Holiday Montage Collaboration - No deadline, we'll play it by ear

I get your idea here.  I'm not sure how everyone feels about doing dolly shots, though.  I'm also not sure how well it fits in if we were going with giftbox POV.

But by all means, discuss, but let's be quick because December approaches.
