Re: Guess the Film! (Game)
I think it's scandinavian. I think. Maybe.
Dunno what movie, though.

Random Asian film that not many people have seen.
*yawn*
No, trust me, this is on a lot of best-of-all-time lists.
Rashomon
Kurosawa
1950
A priest, a woodcutter and another man tell stories about samurai
Pretty sure it's Asian.
Late Spring
Ozu

Ozu
Asian
Part of trilogy
I'm not sure if you missed this post, it being the last of the previous page, but it pretty much matches your hints.
I did see it, though I hope you noticed that I said trinity, not trilogy.

I didn't notice. Oops.
I thought it was Seven Samurai. I tried looking through the list of all Criterion films, and it was the only black & white Asian film I'd seen.
Is it Asian at all?
The Hidden Fortress
Toho
Japan
1958
I'll try with this:
The Virgin Spring
Directed by Ingmar Bergman
Has a Criterion Edition
It's Black and White

More hints. Is it Asian or not?
I thought he already said no, didn't he?
He didn't say it's not, he didn't say it is though.
He said "nope, nope, nope"
I thought it was Seven Samurai. (1 nope)
Is it Asian at all? (2 nope)

You could have narrowed down that list easily, you know.
It's Ugetsu, which I really recommend watching. My hint to "complete the trinity" was based on the notion of Ozu, Kurosawa and Mizoguchi being the three great early postwar Japanese directors, which may or may not be accurate.
