For big Harry Potter fans such ad myself. Discuss!

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

I'd like to discuss, but I think I'll wait a day, see if what the mods think of this... a lot of topics were posted (such as Rollercoaster discussion) and were closed. If it goes well, I'll join. But I think similar discussions can be held in the Cafe Corner or in the Books discussion. And you should honor the seventh movie (no matter how bad) and have a HP avatar.

I sometimes wonder about the significance of certain items/possesions/people in Harry's life.

So yeah, I'm back from my mind.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

Eddie, some people are reading the series or may want to, you could at least put that sentence in a spoiler.

I used to have an HP avatar but I discovered that someone else already had the one I was using.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

MY VIEW OF HARRY POTTER:

Books are classic.
Films 1 & 2 were awesome (in my opinion)
Films 3 & 4 sucked (in my opinion)
Film 5 was good
Film 6 was really good
Looking forward to Film 7 Parts 1&2
Alan Rickman as Snape is the greatest thing ever
Voldemort is a really good villain - though I prefer him in the books (got to see the guy who played him perform at the national theatre a few years ago)
Luna is surprisingly good in the films
I love the Lego sets, but haven't played the game....yet

That is all

The [major] characters best acted in the films- Hermione, Ron, Snape, McGonnagol, er... and Neville. Books are classics, like you said. Films 1 and 4 were good, 2 and 3 were okay, 5, 6 (and probably 7s) are terrible. The story is so different and "morphed" that it resembles nothing from the books. The graphics (and characters mentioned above) are the only good part of the films. I'm getting an xbox, so I'll be getting the LEGO HP game. I only have one HP lego set ( mini/eek) but plan to get more, including the recent ones.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

Considering there are two movies for Hallows, they probably didn't change much of the story.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

The writers of the movies have been digging themselves deeper and deeper into their own grave. The few minor changes from the first couple of movies caused a whole chain reaction of new changes, resulting in the newer movies being farther and farther off from the original story. I'm not saying I hate the movies, I enjoy watching them, its just that I can't prevent myself from yelling at the TV everytime they do something wrong. I also understand that is is impossible to transfer exactly whats written among those thousands of pages into a film script, but some things are just crazy off.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

Sooo... Why is everyone using HP avatars? Even though I like HP, I still want to keep my rock monster avatar.

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

Actually, I believe the first movie had actual lines from the book, no? I believe that one was the most accurate.
I think my opinions of the movies are the exact same as Max Butcher's, but I remember hating the 5th one...

Re: Harry Potter Discussion Topic

ALL of the movies use actual lines from the books...I would know, I have seen each one several times and I've recently read 1-5 (working on 6 now).

The changes in the conversion from book to movie, so far, is very logical IMO. Sure, I'm sad they cut out certain things, but MOST of the things they cut out didn't have anything to do with the MAIN plot. If they tried to include all these small details, it would have been horrible from a filmmaking standpoint.

So for me, it's not a matter of them failing to capture the books, the books just simply can't be captured fully with films. Though I do think some of them could have been better made.

You have a great point there, like, how will they get around

Spoiler (click to read)

The burrow being incinerated?

The movies were okay from 1-3, then they got off the plot, boring, or just plain bad. Daniel Radcliff plays a great harry, The cast is excellent in my opinion.
