Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

I think the biggest things I want are:
onion skinning,
fast playbacks that load well and show how smooth the animation really is,
compatibility with lots of different cameras/webcams,
easy to find settings,
different output types,
for it to run on both Windows and Mac,
and for either a light blue or green-ish background, to make a change from boring and dull colors.

  • Built in chroma-keying

  • Runs on Mac

  • Onion Skinning

  • Being able to add sound within the software.

You'll be wanting Dragon then.

Apologies, I didn't realise this wasn't a thread to recommend other software in.

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

Oh yeah, two more things I forgot. I would like it to have multiple camera support and, uh, something else I forgot for the moment. When I remember I'll edit my post.

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

3D cababilities? Onion Skinning and the ability to shoot in HD with the screen getting bigger than your computer screen in monkeyjam are the main ones I want. Why does monkeyjam not have onion skinning!? Is monkeyjam still being worked on or is it dead?

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

ForlornCreature,

Monkeyjam is still under production.
The website boasts that the new, updated version will indeed have onion skinning. mini/bigsmile

I use a Panasonic DV camcorder, why? I have the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 but the software doesn't work on Mac, and I animate with a iBook G4 (too old to run bootcamp).

Because I also have a mac and I'm looking for a decent camera...my 4000 is crap. Also, what program do you use?

@williamgeorgegardner:
Is the software still in production, or did you dismiss the idea?

bafran 1.9 - programming ~ 35% done ~ gave up on it

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

I know this might sound really girly, but could you add some colour like in Monkeyjam with the orange layer colour. I hate the programs that look like they were made without caring and no colour what so ever - like Virtual dub. It's not white, it's not cream - it's not brown - what is it?! So maybe a coloured bar to liven it up?

I would also like a simple tab on the side like in Windows Movie Maker that's easy to use. Don't use icons that nobody has ever seen. Stick to the toolbar in words and the save icon, open icon, new icon etc, etc.

Also special effects like cool text effects, reverse effect, morph effect, things like that.
Be able to play multiple tracks at a time. mini/smile

I use a tiger version of framebyframe It's a great software.

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

Onion Skin is a must, grids might be helpful too. Frame capture as well as editing on the same program. And keep the camera's original resolution, like MonkeyJam does.
Btw, J.TProductions, that simply isn't girly at all! It is essential for a program to have a nice looking interface as well as an efficient one. Or else the program won't be as attractive.

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

Definetly keying with an interface that can tell the difference between blue and green screen. the ability to do explosions would be awesome too. and you could actually make the keying NOT beat the living crap out of the quality. plus being able to add at least 3 tracks of audio

Re: Your ideal brickfilming software

For the basic visual effects i would suggest just these:
Smoke
Just one explosion(if possible)
Lasers
Muzzle Flashes
Digital Faces
