I knew somebody would post that thing on this thread.
Earlier I thought on doing that too mini/shifty

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Metropolis (the anime): It was the most interesting film out of the bunch, even after my aversion to anime. It had a somewhat depressing ending, though. I thought the music selection was a bit odd in some areas, but it didn't really distract from the film too much. I really wish I could write a longer review about this, because it really was worth my time, but I'm terrible at these sorts of things. I'll just end by giving it 4/5 stars.
G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra: Okay, I wanted to watch Astro Boy, but it wasn't working yet (most of these were JUST added to Netflix), so my sister and I watched this instead. It wasn't all that great, comprising mostly of a bunch of uninteresting characters duking it out over some Grey... *ehem* GREEN Goo, with a heaping helping of explosions thrown in for good measure. It did not satisfy. 2/5 stars.
Astro Boy: I admit, I already knew bits and pieces of what happened in the film, except for the end... which I guessed anyway. Really, when nobody in Hollywood feels brave enough to have a main character die, you kind of start knowing that they will be brought back one way or another, and usually it doesn't take much to figure out exactly how they will be brought back. Also, the voice acting was a little lackluster. Nevertheless, I thought it was an enjoyable film, if a bit corny at times. I thought there was some hilarious stuff in the opening monologue and sprinkled through-out the film. 3.5/5 stars.
Battle for Terra: I'm not really sure what to say about this film. It wasn't really great, by my standards, and it felt a little tedious. At least this film had a main character die, but in the end, I didn't really care, which is probably a sign that either this film just didn't do it for me, or was truly a badly done film. I'll give it 2/5 stars.

Megashark Vs Giant Octopus

Cheap *ss movie, crapy editing, directing and acting, horrible CGI, no emotionel attachments. But it's just funny stuff in the beginning but the end is just BORING...

0,5/5

Paranormal Activity

I watched it this time with the original ending, way more effective, I hate to admit but I screamed at the end.

Black Dynamite

It's finally been released here. It was hilarious. I'm seeing it again it's tragically underadvertised which is a shame. Only Nixon himself could come up with a plan that fiendish.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Kick-Ass and Shaun of The Dead.

Both were hilarious and incredibly violent.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I really enjoyed this movie. Its art-deco/dieselpunk styling were delightful and the chemistry between Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow was fun to watch. However, it suffered from an over-reliance on blue-screen backdrops and the CG looks dated. Nonetheless, I'd give this film 4 stars.

What is this crap I don't even.

mini/eek  I saw it before on DVD, but decided I needed to seen it in IMAX 3D. Wow. That film is absolutely insanely awesome, the IMAX 3D experience is just so immersive and awesome. Bravo to all the visual effects people. mini/bigsmile

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Must not rant about Avatar.....must not rant about Avatar.......QUICK, LETS WATCH ANOTHER MOVIE I DON'T LIKE!!

Terminator Salvation

OK, this isn't a bad movie - but its not Terminator. The whole franchise should have stopped at 2, just like the 'Highlander' franchise should have stopped at 1 (there should have only been one....)

Why? Two words: James Cameron. Now, I hate James Cameron (although my hate isn't entirely rational I'll admit) but he knew how to make a Terminator movie. He knew the franchise, back story, etc. So when you get the director of 'Charlie's Angels' (not a good start) to direct a franchise he was merely a fan of.....its obviously not going to be as good. It was the same with Terminator 3......and I prefer that movie. Sure, it completely contradicts the previous instalment and is basically a re-make of T2, but I will gladly take a remake over fan-fiction, because that's what the movie is.

No, its not even fan fiction. Fan fiction is far more creative and takes far more risks. Even 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles' took waaayyy more risk. Sarah and John time- travel to 2007, which basically removes Terminator 3 from the franchise and is a perfect set up to continuous adventures with the future being unwritten and able to change.....just like the ending to Terminator 2. The problem with having a story after Judgement Day is that you are limiting the franchise. By setting the story in 2018, that means that in eight years (which is almost how old Terminator 3 is) the story will be outdated. Sure, movies like '2001' and '1985' are outdated.....but this is just eight years (nine when the movie was made) Eight years isn't a long time in the movie industry. I remember Star Wars Episode 2 when it came out in 2002 - that doesn't seem long ago at all.

And by setting a time-frame for Judgement Day, you are removing all extensions on the franchise such as 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles' meaning that show can join T3 as completely irrelevant. Way to go! Don't just ruin the franchise - completely destroy it!!

So, wait, that means that is the Sarah Connor Cronicles is irrelevant, T3 still is relevant? NOOOOOOO!!!!

Oh, and Christian Bale sucks in this movie, although judging by his rant recorded on set he must have been in a really bad mood whilst filming - plus bad acting usually means bad directing. How do I know it was the directors fault? Because its not just Bale that speaks in the Batman voice....EVERYONE SPEAKS IN THE BATMAN VOICE!! Did the whole cast have a sore throat? Or did the director say "I want you all to be bada$$. Make your voices sound bada$$. Nope, too subtle. Still too subtle. Thats it! Sound like that throughout the entire movie!"

So I cant take any dialogue seriously because everyone's doing their Clint Eastwood impression. Great. What's the action like?

Was 2009 the year of giant mechs and robots? District 9, Transformers 2, this, Avatar, etc. And why is the giant mec a giant rip off of the tri-pods in War Of The Worlds in how they take humans and put them in a basket? Still better than the GIANT KNIFE WIELDING MECH!!

And the Arnie cameo is nice but pointless since he gets burned in like, 5 seconds and turned into just another Terminator. What a boring climax. In fact, all they are doing is blowing up a base. How exiting.

And NOTHING IS ACOMPLISHED because at the end its like "The battle is over, but the war shall continue for two more movies. TUNE IN NEXT TIME, SAME TERMI-TIME, SAME TERMI-CHANNEL". So we're exactly as we started off. Thanks for wasting 90 mins of my life...

It's my Birthday today, got lots of goodies. Aside from some books and a NEW CAMERA, I got some DVDs:

Snatch:
Rarely does a film so easily jump into my Top Ten, but here's an exception.

Evil Dead 2:
Oh, it happened again.

I also got Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and Bullit. Haven't watched them yet, though. Seeing as it was Father's Day as well, me, mum and dad went and saw The Expendables. It was good fun. Sure, it wasn't an emotionally challenging piece of cinematic artwork or whatever, but it obviously wasn't trying to be. It was just fun. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be so over-the-top that it was hilarious, but it was. That huge gun that guy had was funny as hell.
