Re: Café Corner
That's an entertaining newspaper article. I feel like I've read it before, but it reminded me of some humorous happenings I had otherwise forgotten.
Happy Birthday, LSP.

That;'s fabtastics!.
I'm not sure if anyone cares, haha, but I'm gonna post it anyway. The outcome of the election might be better than I had expected. The current sate of parliament looks a little like this.
Australian Labor Party - 72 seats
Liberal/National Party - 69 seats
Greens - 1 seat
National Independent - 1 seat
Independents - 3 seats
Seats in Doubt - 4
So if you divide them into the two major parties: (Goal= 76)
Australian Labor Party (72)
Greens (1)
Doubtful seats leaning towards Labor (1)
Total= 74
Liberal/National Party (69)
National Independent (1)
Doubtful seats leaning towards the Liberals/Nationals (3)
Total= 73
And the three independents are holding the balance of power. One of them is crazy, and could swing either way, but the other two seem to have their wits about them and want to have a stable government. Labor has (at this point) won the national two party preferred vote, and if they also win a majority in the parliament, it's likely at least the two sensible independents will side with Labor. And given that Labor and the Greens hold a majority in the senate, it only boosts the chances the independents will go with Labor.
Most of you will have like no idea of what I;m talking about, so just to clear things up, Labor are right wing, and the Liberal/National Parties are left wing social conservatives. The Leader of the Liberal/National Coalition is a bible bashing catholic nut who was studying to become a priest prior to entering politics.
And yeah, I've realized I'm being extremely biased. Well done if you bothered reading that, hahaha.
I read it.
I'm with you, Riley. I'm hoping Labor win, because Tony Abbot is seriously... I hate him. I've always hated the Liberal Party, now that I think about it.
For some reason all my friends just say "I want Tony to win because he'll stop the boats* and Julia Gillard is a ranga woman who back stabbed Kevin Rudd."
*Even though legally you aren't allowed to stop a boat seeking asylum, and the amount of refugees who come by boat is 10% of all refugees who come here anyway.
I sort of get of what your saying, its not to different from the UK's election system. But the actual parties seem to be very different over there compared to their British counter parts.
I really dislike the UK's current coalition government. For some reason they keep increasing taxes and lowering spending. They are going to raise VAT to 20% next year. And duty on alcohol is going up as allways. Then they decided to make a load of people redundant, Including fire fighters and police. And they cut the eduction budget but 30%. Then they have the nerve to blame all these cuts on the previous government, claiming that it is the result of their over spending. Personally i think that borrowing money is better then cutting spending. In the private sector businesses are run mainly on borrowed money.
This is what happens when you have a government made up of two losing parties, especially when one of those parties hasn't been in government for 100 years. Worst bit is that I am affected by the government, but i didn't even get to vote.
Dan, I'm glad you're not a Liberal, haha, the number of people in WA I've spoken to that have bought into the coalition's false bravado is astounding. Somehow, Abbott's managed to convince people that the asylum seekers or 'boat people' are actually an issue, and that frustrates me to no end.
I've also had an unusual amount of people complain that Julia's a woman and ranga, and I've tried talking to them and asking why they hold such a prejudiced and sexist view over someone, and if they would actually vote based on the colour of someone's hair, and I'm actually concerned that they would.
I go to a Catholic private school, so half the guys there are entitled, arrogant pricks coming from wealthy and conservative backgrounds, which would be why most of them support Tony Abbott, but it seems like they've only heard parents or relatives commending the coalition becuase of the tax-breaks they'll get, so they assume the coalition will be the better option, so when I'm arguing with them over who is best suited to run the country, they pull rubbish out of their arse and say "Well you know, Julia Gllard's cuttng funding to hospitals, and she's pulling money out of WA", which is simply not true at all, in fact, it's the complete opposite on the first subject- Gillard has a much more stable long term plan for health and hospital funding. I better stop here, I was rambling about junk that wasn't relevant.
And TDogg, I don't follow British politics, and the UK's economy isn't in the best shape at the moment, so I'm not suprised that the Government are cutting spending, though like I said, I don't follow British politics, so I have no idea if the government are cutting spending to sectors vital to the economy's stability (Kind of like how Tony Abbott wants to make drastic cuts to the training and apprentice courses, which will lead to a lack of skilled workers in Australian industry within the next 10-15 years, but by that time it won't be Abbott's problem, it'll be the next poor sod.)
