I have sony vegas 10, what are you trying to do? What do you mean edit? Have you tried putting it on the timeline first?

Hmm, all I do is import my media and it pops up in my media folder, I then drag it in to the timeline. What filetype are you using? Usually .mov's are best suited for it.

I can't edit text. That's what I mean, it won't allow me to edit any generated media. The box for text edits does not appear and noting happenss when I press the button or right click and select "edit generated media."
