Jaws

Saw Jaws in the BIG screen today. I felt like I was in 1975 watching it as it just came out mini/tongue The theater was packed sold out crowd. Over 2,000 at that one showing. Saw in on the original film reel from the archives. Its amazing watching it in theater.

The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)

A Classic Sci-Fi film with a great message. I feel that this is another one of those films that was years ahead of it's time.
The guy who played Klato was really great, he sold it. Overall it felt very realistic, and I'm sure if it feels realistic to people now, I'm sure it scared a lot of people back in 1951.

The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)

I didn't think it was that bad! For a remake I thought it was veeerry well made, remakes are always terribly made. Although Keanu Reeves didn't show a sign of expression throughout the entire thing I think he did pretty well, portraying an alien being. He doesn't top the original Klato though, that guy was boss. I'll say this though, the CGI on Gort was pretty terrible, a few shots were so bad I cringed at them a little. Overall, it had a great script and a great message too (a message like the original except with more to it). I loved the little things they put in from the original, (Spoilers>) I would have liked to have seen the woman say "Klato Berata Nicto" to Gort, but whatevs. (<Spoilers) I'd say it's more like a take-off than a remake, it didn't seem like a remake to me.

True Romance
Still one of my faves.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Splice

It starts of with a classic Sci-Fi story, scientist discover something that could save life's and stuff it goes differant , bla bla bla and.... ends in something nobody probably saw coming... I feel very disturbed. I'm definatly gonna see it a second time, but not for a while...
I only recommend it to horror/Sci-Fi fans, other people will probably walk out angry out of this movie...

Good movie.

This is probably the best movie Nicholas Cage is in, it was silly, ridiculous and a lot of fun to watch.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Before you decide if you should see this in theatres, you must ask yourself this question:

Do I like cool things?

If the answer that comes back is an emphatic 'Yes', then you know where you need to park your butt. In a theatre showing this film, that is.

This movie is a fantastic ride. It features quirky, funny dialogue pared with eye-popping action and visuals as well as comic and video-game related visual gags, accompanied by gritty, grungy rock. What more could you want? My eyes were, if you'll excuse the cliched phrase, glued to the screen the entire time. Plenty of times whilst sitting in a theare, I have experienced discomfort in the posterior area due to sitting too long in an uncomfortable seat. Not so in this picture. It wasn't until the credits were over that I realized my rumpus was in discomfort.

Edgar Wright has not only done it again, he has topped himself (in my opinion, anyway) for the third time in a row.

Things I loved (mild spoilers) - read after watching:

The character of Wallace
The part in which Edgar Wright spoofed the quick montage cuts of the type used in Hot Fuzz - i.e., when Scott had to pause extra long to tie his shoe before rushing out
Vegan Police high-five - everyone in the theatre erupted in laughter!
The battle of the bands with the twins
The awesomeness and variety in the fights - when Scott was used involuntarily to fight the goth chick (whose name I can't remember), I nearly died laughing]

The only thing that didn't quite fit for me was the brief sitcom parody, which felt out of place, even given how surreal other parts of the movie were.] On the whole, however, I felt that the movie worked exceptionally well, and there was not a major complaint that I can think of.

I have yet to read the comic (something I will now remedy soon!), but regardless of how it was adapted, it certainly stands on its own well.

Toy Story 3

I cried.

Well, I didn't quite end up blubbing, but the tears were there in that final scene...
One of the funniest movies I have even seen. I mean, I couldn't laugh too hard at beyond-metrosexual Ken with my dad sitting next to me...

This definitely bring Toy Story into 2010, with Woody using (what is obviously meant to be) Google Maps, and the word 'tween' cropping up once. Gosh, it feels like Andy has grown up in the same world we have. The detail on everything includes a lot of things that really wouldn't be obvious unless you'd done a lot of research into everything in the world you're creating.

Oh yeah, and there are LEGO minifigs in the crowd when the gang first arrives at Sunnyside. +even more cool points

Toy Story 3 was pretty awesome. I got a bit misty-eyed myself.

Sadly, it looks like Scott Pilgrim didn't get off to a good good start. mini/sad

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Toy Story 3
I was really on the verge of crying, but my family was around and another family we had went with, so I thought I'd try to pull myself together. I was really disappointed when we walked in though. We entered a cinema which was empty. We were the only people in the cinema. I know we had a cinema to yourself but it just felt lonely and disappointing. Anyway, the movie.

The movie was a blast, the little start bit was really great, however, I won't spoil. Day and Night was genius. I really enjoyed it all. I agree with Hazzat on the sort of world that we grow up in is very similar. I have a funny story actually.

We were doing a cleanup the other day, and mum found my old Buzz Lightyear toy, but it had played a major part of my childhood, so I kept him. He's now proudly sitting on a desk in my room, on his own.

Toy Story 3 was amazing, and in the aforementioned family I went with, there's a girl who's my age, and we're basically just friends. She wasn't really grown up in pixar films like I was, for some reason she preferred dream works. She didn't think Toy Story 3 was sad! She also wanted to see Shrek 4 instead of Toy Story 3. Bad decisions.

Also, I'm considering ordering the classic JB Sean Connery edition, so there's a few films and I saw Spiderman 3 two-disc edition in a shop for just £4.99 (the guy gave me 50p off when he was checking it on the counter, for some reason) so I may be reviewing them soon.

Quantum of Solace
Not as good as Casino Royale, and there are too much action scenes, but overall a good film.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Highlander

Aside from some plotholes (If an immortal can still be wounded, why has no-one tried to sever their arms or legs? If the only way to kill them is to behead them, surely you could just blow them up? If an immortal is burnt to ashes, do they die?) its a really good movie. An enjoyable action movie with a great concept, great cast, great action (the final sword fight was incredible) and kickass music by 'Queen' (EVERY movie should have their music done by 80's Rock-stars)

My only real complaint is that the ending was a bit abrupt. We also never see the police again, which is odd since there looked like unfinished business there.

I had an epic time. Awesome pace, striking visuals.

The Other Guys
More episodic than I would have liked, but it had its moments. Some scenes would have worked better as SNL skits.

The Prestige
Just as awesome (if not more so) than the first time around.

Moon

I cried.

Well, I didn't quite end up blubbing, but the tears were there in that scene where bloody Sam discovers he's a clone]. The answer to the big mystery in this film is extraordinarily well presented. They don't tell you it for sure until long after you've worked it out and this way everyone gets it at a different time. Stunning visuals, fantastic acting and a plot that keeps you gripped right to the end. The resolution is there if you listen hard enough.

Go and watch this movie.

(I shouted 2001 several times. Classical music over a shot of the blue arc of Earth? It's just missing the dancing spaceship. One of the bases looked like a monolith too. That's not a criticism, just a lol.)
