Topic: HALP MEH! (Lighting!)

Hi everyone, its been a long time since I posted last.

I am shooting a still shot (not LEGO). I have two desklamps (one on either side of the subject). I diffused the lighting with white paper.

I want the effect of a shadow from the right lamp. But I also want to use the left one to get even lighting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Fib

Re: HALP MEH! (Lighting!)

What you could do is take the light on the left (where you want the shadow) and replace it with a filler like a piece of white card stock. That way the subject would still be lit but the reflected light would be much softer and more subtle.

You could also take the light you replace with the filler and use it as a back light to illuminate the scenery a bit depending on its intensity.

Re: HALP MEH! (Lighting!)

Not quite sure what you want, but maybe adding a second piece of paper onto the right lamp?

Re: HALP MEH! (Lighting!)

Use varying wattages. On a film set (mainly in an interview or indoor shot) they will have a key light at about 500 watts, a 150-200 watt fill light and back light (these will be what adds more light while still keeping a decent shadow from the key).

Hm, I have trouble with this too, lighting. tut tut! Haha!
Cover the left lamp with paper, but the right one not. That would cast a shadow I guess.. mini/wink

Re: HALP MEH! (Lighting!)

Well, If you want to cast a shadow on the left side, use "paper!" but on the other side, try using tracing paper.. its thin, so it should give off more light (making it look brighter than it really is) Just a thought...
