Topic: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

I have sony vegas studio platinum 9, and I can't seem to add motion blur. Can you do that in a different program. I saw recently in the WIP and Test forum that someone added motion blur in Monkey Jam... is that possible?

Re: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

Go to gimp and do it frame by frame. Or if you have After effects buy the reel smart motion blur plugin.

How about Photoshop?

Keshen can do it in Final cut, and you can do it in Vegas. Basicly when rendering your film go into render options somewhere you'll have to set the framerate, Keshen sets it to 24fps and that should work.

Is there a program that does it which is free?

"Now you're just being cute. I CAN'T GO TO PIGFARTS. IT'S ON MAAARS, YOU NEEED A ROCKETSHIP. Do you have a rocketship, Potter? I bet you do. You know, not all of us inherited enough money to buy out NASA when our parents died; Look at this. Rocketship Potter. Starkid Potter. Moooonshoes Potter. Good programs are worth paying for. That's something a lot of young brickfilmers need to learn.
The only free way I can see to do this would be in Gimp, going frame by frame.

If you don't fancy doing it in post-production, Quigibo said that for the opening shot in People Come in. Pizzas Come Out he just pushed the cars past the camera really fast while taking frames. This isn't always an option though (with minifigs, for example).

Wouldn't that just make it look faster, not add motion blur?

Re: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

No, the software will create extra frames to fill up the space needed - these frames are basically two pictures combined in a "ghost"-like way:

Where normally at 12FPS you would have frame 1 on the left and frame 2 on the right, now at 24FPS you would have frame 1, then 2, then 3. The one in the middle is a combination of the other two combined. Of course, this isn't "motion blur", technically.

Proper motion blur is more complicated: I myself tried it out using GIMP for a bit. I'm sure there is software out there that can do it automatically, but I don't know of any free ones.

Thanks! Thats the type of look I was, well... looking for. Now I just have to figure out how to do it in Vegas. I know its possible, but probably tricky.

There is a free program, it's called Virtual Dub.

Re: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

Virtual Dub doesnt motion blur, it just makes a trail or previous images.

Re: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

Any one know how to do it in Sony Vegas Studio Platinum 9?

Re: Question? How to add motion blur to your films?

Try exporting it as .avi and then see if it works. That's how I do it even though I don't mean to. D:
