Topic: QuickCam 9000 on a Mac (or a new camera?)

I'm looking into upgrading my old PC and getting a MacBook Pro. Problem is, a lot of my hardware/software isn't compatible with Macs. My Quickcam Pro wouldn't work properly with a Mac, but I've heard of a program that might help this (iGlasses). Is it any good or will I have to get a new camera if I upgrade to a Mac? If so, what's a good camera (equal to or greater than a 9000) to replace my current webcam?

On a sidenote, can I transfer the Photoshop files from my current PC to a new Mac? (will PS work?)

Another question. Will Boot Camp allow my Quickcam to work properly?

Bootcamp WILL allow your quickcam to work, but you will need to be on the windows OS when using it. I believe Littlebrick uses this method.

What's bootcamp?

Re: QuickCam 9000 on a Mac (or a new camera?)

It is a software that lets you run Windows on a Mac while still having the Mac OS on the computer

It's a Mac program that allows you to split your hard-drive, and install Windows on the section that your Mac is not on. After that is done, you can switch between the two OSs, so it's like having two computers in one. Very fun stuff.

NXT, if you can do BootCamp, I'd highly suggest going for it.

No bootcamp. What would be the point of getting a mac if your just gonna use windows on it? Are you looking for a webcam or a HDV cam? The Quickcam vision for mac looks the same as the 9000, but the interior is completely different. If you are looking for a webcam probably get that. If you are getting an HDV camcorder I would probably get a Canon Vixia or a Sony HandyCam. I personally don't have any of these. But I have been reading about these.

^ There's loads of reasons to do that. This way you can use basically any program there is (Linux specific of course). And your not buying a Mac just to use Windows on it, your running BOTH operating systems on the same computer, it'll add much greater flexibility in terms of software and some hardware.

And another program (not sure how well it compares to Bootcamp) is called Parallels. It comes with a Mac Pro workstation at B&H, but you can also just buy the program itself.

Well, the Logitech Mac Vision has no manual features, so it's useless. Thanks for answering my question everyone! Once I find the right model, I'll be ready to buy t.

Yeah but you would need like 8 gigs of ram to run both operating systems well.

I've manage to run it pretty well with only 2Gb of RAM on a MacBook.

I thought you could choose which or when you re-boot? So then it wouldn't use half your RAM on one system and the other half on the other...

Re: QuickCam 9000 on a Mac (or a new camera?)

^ I believe that's the way Boot Camp works (Haven't used it, but have heard from others who have)

I use VMWare, and it's been great so far. Runs at the same time as MacOS and allows the user to allocate how much HD space and memory it gets.

I'll have to look into that, thanks for the tip. mini/smile

Yeah, I was considering getting a Windows 7, but I think a Mac is the better option for me. mini/smile

O.K. Boot-camp will work fine, check your version of PS, and you can transfer them.

The MacBook Pro looks good, it's about 5 times more powerful than my current system.
