Topic: Takes

How many takes do you usually do for a shot?

I'm doing shots with multiple variables and I find myself needing retakes (ex: the ease out of the camera move wasn't perfect)

Re: Takes

It depends on the outcome, if awful redo, if your lucky and it comes out right/perfect then leave it.

Re: Takes

I generally hope for the perfect take...when I see that it is very bad, an awful shot, or my brother insist that I have absolutely to redo it, I redo it.

Re: Takes

I generally re-take only if I need to. Unlike live-action, there aren't as many variables (Actor's expression, nature, camera dolly, boom mic, etc.)

Re: Takes

If you wanted to take multiple shots for what your hoping to be a good movie, I'd say maybe two or three. Unfortunately, we haven't tried to take multiple takes yet mini/sad , so advice from us is like advice from a mule.

Re: Takes

Normally I try to keep it one-take for everything as I'm lazy and sloppy. However if something is so dire such as accidentally knocking over a minifig and unable to return them to the right position or a set or camera bump which cannot be properly corrected then I sometimes quit the take I'm doing then go back to the start. It's a personal preference really and it depends on the individual takes. If you didn't match your vision but you think you can do better another time then definitely take another take.

Re: Takes

Also, if you do mess up, you don't have to restart the whole scene. Just go back a few (or a few dozen) frames and start from there. Ah, the beauty of stop-motion.
