Topic: Background help

I have a scene that is on the street, and our man is in the middle of the crowd. I can't decide how the background should look like.
Maybe with some tall buildings

Maybe just the sky

Or maybe should I put just a wall (I know the wall looks horrible, this is just an example)

(The photos I have taken are only examples)

If you think one of these examples could work well, please tell me wich one. If none of them, what do you think I should do?
I'd like to know also what do you think about the lighting.

Re: Background help

I really like the tall buildings.

Re: Background help

me too.

Re: Background help

The tall buildings looked more like poles to me, to be honest.

Re: Background help

You need more depth to the buildings, put some really far away, and some close up to give it a sense of realism.

Re: Background help

yah those buildings are awesome, but could use a little finessing. I wouldn't show the studs cause that makes it look small.

That's a good idea.

How can I do that?

Re: Background help

Make them taller.

Re: Background help

Put smooth plates on them, or build a simple stack of 1x2s.

Re: Background help

White skyscrapers are rare, so you may want some color variance. Like blue (i.e. glass), or black, or beige.

I might think on doing that. Until now I only put white buildings in the background as examples, plus, the movie is set in the future, where everything should be more brighter and shining and all that stuff.
Anyway, I've taken another frame, with updated background. I just discovererd I'm unable to "delete" those studs because of the lack of smooth platforms. Critiques and suggestion are welcome.

Re: Background help

Using the skyscrapers in the background like that makes the scene disproportionate.

I would recommend a textured building (or 2, 3, whatever) in the background. And maybe have it farther back for more depth.

Re: Background help

I like the old one with the white skyscrapers

I'm not sure of what you mean. Could explain better?

The the way the skyscrapers are currently places is unrealistic (e.g. disproportionate) in relation to the people.

There's no way he can solve that without using CG work though. He said he doesn't have enough white pieces to make them full-scale model skyscrapers.

A) That's not true.

B) What I said earlier (if you read back) was

Re: Background help

You might want to try chroma-keying if you don't have a large area for a set and have the ability to do it.

I've done an example in GIMP of what it could look like.

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/RPHoogle/BFpartyPics/mp_background_idea.jpg

Obviously you wouldn't want real buildings you'd want lego ones. But if you build some big buildings and take a picture you might be able to put it behind the minifigs and it might create the right depth. Also it might be possible to manipulate the image so the buildings do look bright and white like you are hoping. Also I agree that it would help if you didn't show the studs. Those can be easily removed in Gimp if there is to be no camera movement in the shot.

Sounds and looks good! mini/tongue

Re: Background help

Thanks to that image, I noticed I did all wrong. What I need as background is something more like this
http://davenportandwiggins.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/ElmStreetLandscape900.jpg with peoples and no cars, and during the afternoon.
