Topic: Water/Ocean Effects

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knew any good ways to create an good, realistic ocean, preferably with a sense of depth (such as seeing that the boat is in the water, such as the waterline is over the top of the boat). I chroma-keyed and used sqirlz but ot doesn't seem to create the right effect.
Thanks  mini/smile
Also, would it help to use water, or would you just color the boat pieces and try to recreate damp wood, I know what would make that quite difficult

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

I would do it all in post production, probably in Gimp.

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

Maybe get some footage of the sea/river/lagoon/etc... and integrate it with the animation. Then, I'd recommend getting some stock footage of splashes, or something, and then put them in front of the boat, assuming it is going forward.

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

I suggest that if you want an easy, semi-realistic looking way to add water into brickfilms, check out Sqirlz Water Reflections. It works for pools of water, rain, and snow.

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

get your boat, stick in the bath, fill the bath up, get some blue backgrounds, stick them in there and film it. And then slow it down in post production. What? Thats what thunderbirds used to do lol

I'd go with Filipe on this one, but thats if you can do it.

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

I've just tried using stock footage but there were no real good videos and they were all to expensive. mini/blankexpression
Is there anywhere where I can find free video clips of just a motionless ocean, otherwise, are there any other ways, I've ready used squirlz and Gimp gives a cartoony look I'm not looking for.
Is there any easy way to imitate this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpCWOyT8 … re=related
I know it's CGI and that it probably took months of hard work to make that, but just an easy imitation. Just to what I'm looking for.
Thanks

Re: Water/Ocean Effects

How close do you live to a lake? Grab a camcorder and shoot some footage yourself.

I'd skip VFX/CGI entirely and go with it. Either film on a real lake (a quiet, still, lake), or in a bath tub. You just wouldn't get the splashing. That you might be able to do in post/ask someone else to do in post.
