Topic: Can You Mix CGI LEGO Models With Real Footage in Blender

We wanted to know if you can mix CGI LEGO models with real live footage in Blender. If you can, can you please tell us, or leave us a link to a good tutorial on how to do so.

Re: Can You Mix CGI LEGO Models With Real Footage in Blender

Why would you want to do it in Blender? Blender's a 3D modeling program and nothing else. Any compositing of live footage and CGI renders should be done in your video editor.

Well, you could, it's just very difficult to get the camera angles right. I prefer putting it into After Effects and doing it in there.

Well unfortunately, we don't have enough money or resources to buy After Effects, though it does sound like a good idea. Is there some way you could do it in WMM 2 or WLM? If not, we'll just wait until we get Vegas.

Oh, except for animation, physics simulation, game engine, and renderer, among other things.

You forgot that you can also do compositing in the node editor. mini/wink  But I guess that could fit in the 'among other things' category.

Yes, you can. The node editor is extremely powerful and there is no reason why it can not be used. It is a little tricky to learn, but once you have got it the possibilities are really endless. Much greater than Sony Vegas in my opinion for video editing.

Edit: I don't have a link, but really it just required the know how to do it, so try searcing "blender node editor" in YouTube and Vimeo and I'm sure you will find something.

You export lights, camera, 3D elements into a video editing program and blend them with the live-footage. If you don't have a video editing program (similar to AE, for instance) I wouldn't go near 3D for a while. Try to work around your problem that requires CGI.
