I've been trying to figure out how to remotely manually focus in Canon's "RemoteCapture" utility using my Canon A620 and haven't had any luck. Does anybody here use "RemoteCapture" or the A620 for that matter? I know that Smeagol has the exact same setup, and I tried asking him in chat, but he was already busy talking and ignored/didn't see my question so I didn't press it. Anyone?
Unfortunately this isn't possible. The workaround I believe Smeagol uses is to lock the focus, which works great for the most part. I have an A640, but I don't shoot with any kind of capture program for this very reason.
Sort of, I use Remotecapture and I set the Aperture to focus the set, high numbers for more focused, low numbers for less focused.
Yep, I lock the focus -- however you can even do things like a rack focus because you can focus it on a random object placed center-frame at the depth level you want, lock the focus, then remove that object, delete the frame, and re-shoot the frame.
