Re: How isn't my film "family friendly"?

I like it, this is a good family friendly site, but the only question that I have is could you divide "good animators" from "average animators" in a contest, or on youtube high subscribed users from low subscribed users. Thanks!

It's a good idea, we just practice more and more (and you need to as well). Otherwise, we're BOTH average.

Re: How isn't my film "family friendly"?

May I ask why we'd want to divide up the community like that? All I can see it doing is causing some hurt feelings for those who get put in the "bad" category (call it "average" if you want, but the community isn't stupid) without doing any lick of good. More importantly, dividing them up with a one-time event like a contest is ridiculous... for example, if the contest took place in September of 2008, a certain director would have only released this film and been qualified as "average." And Youtube subscriber totals are worthless. Forrestfire101 has 100,000+ subscribers, while bodville (pe668) has under 600.

Things like this have been suggested in the past, but there's really no good that can come out of it. Sorry.

With all due respect Noodle, I don't want you here. - Ratboy Productions

Re: How isn't my film "family friendly"?

All we are saying is that the four monkeys on youtube did it, and no one got hurt. We agree that calling people "good" and "bad" or "average" is a bad idea.  But seriously, if we were all in a contest against fancypants, he would win.  We need to find a ssafe, non-hurtful way to give everyone an even chance against competitors their own strength.

Good can come out of it if we try.  This idea might not have been the best, but this is a personal request to smeagol.  And, as skwizitanee so abruptly pointed out, we are still in the learning phase, and testing out new things. So for Avant-Garde (we're not complaining, just putting in a request) we just thought maybe we shouldn't be put up against the best animators.  If not, then we'll tough it out just like the best of them.

So who would make the decision on what category each person goes in? And also who would be bothered about it anyway, I don't care how good or bad you are, you will still be aloud to enter the same contests as anyone else. Anyway brickfilming isn't limited to youtube and is certainly not in anyway connected subscriber counts.
You have 77 subscribers so under your idea that would put you in the low subscriber category, I really doubt you would like to be told that you can't enter Avant-Garde because you don't have enough subscribers on youtube.
On this site a good film will be judged on its merits and not on the film-makers previous experience.
Also there is an annual 'Bricks in Motion Awards' which praises Brick filmers for there successes and shows us who's the best of the best.
I think you have gotten this community mixed up with the 'four monkey's' contests where I believe they split up films by subscriber counts.

People nowadays are way too focused on making an entry for contests and lost the focus on telling a good story in their own way. I mean, you don't need contests to get by.

Introducing a class system goes completely against the mentality that all brickfilmers deserve and equal chance. If someone is better at brickfilm then you, then he deserves to win the contest. If you suck, don't hope for some ranking system to put you in the same category; improve yourself.

We know that we would be in the low subscriber category, that is our point.  And we agreed that this isn't the best idea if you would have read  our last two texts.  And everyone should be matched to equal competition, or the "big guns" will always win, but as we said this was not a well thought out suggestion, and it should have been in a different thread, please forgive our blunder.  Thanks and God bless mini/smile

I forgive you but I would rather god didn't bless me because I don't need his help, I am fine on my own. Wait what are you apologizing for?

Re: How isn't my film "family friendly"?

Well you may not want it, but we will not take it back.  And we were apologizing for stirring up controversy and "trolling" as smeagol calls it.

This is all extremely off topic and doesn't contribute to anything really.
