Don't rush him too much guys. It must take ages to look through all of the entries. 
GIMP is unbelievably simple. If you are unable to use it then you have never properly tried it. I can't honestly see what is complicated about it. I suppose if your illiterate, generally bad at computers or are just spending too much time watching FF101 videos then you may find it hard to use. But you can not say that it is any more complicated than photoshop. I may also add that you don't have to use every feature in GIMP, If you want you can use GIMP like paint. Or alternatively you could sit down for 3 hours and try to make a some pictures using various tools and the incredibly simple layer system. I would choose the second.
if you haven't watched any tutorials I can see how it would LOOK hard but as you say it's less complicated then photoshop(not to mention FREE)
Just a curious question, Do you spend more money on Lego or Stop-Motion software and cameras. Personally, I spend more on Lego.
