Topic: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

I thought rather than make threads for individual questions or ask them on other threads it would be easier to make a thread for all my questions.
I would really appreciate it if you would help me out.

  • Do you know of any programme that makes professional quality music or at least good quality scores (And that's not £1000)?

  • Is there a digital camera that has better quality than a QC9000 for the same price or less (about £70-90)?

  • Is there a shop  where I can get 'adobe after affects' dirt cheap with a student card (in the UK)?

Now this stuff is just bothering me.

  • What does the first 'O' in olol mean?

  • What does the first 'Z' in ZOMG mean?

Thank You

edit:

  • What would be a good device for recording sounds while away from a computer? (I know of a gadget that does it but I cant think of the name)

  • What is this ( mini/cat ) smiley for?

Adobe Soundbooth CS5? Garageband? Don't say that Garageband is terrible though, it's actually quite a good music making device.

I'm not sure how this relates to filmmaking, but generally these don't have a literal meaning, mostly being there for aesthetic reasons.

Adobe Soundbooth CS5 is a bit pricey, £187 inc VAT. Does Garage band work on PC?

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

Well, it's not even close to 1000 euros-that-I-don't-know-how-to-make-the-sign-for-on-the-computer, so if you had to you could get that. And I'm not exactly aware if Garageband works on a PC, although I think you might be able to make it work. But if all else fails, you could get Magix Music Maker 15 ($50-60). I wouldn't reccomend it, but it's better than nothing and there is an option for you to make your own tracks. Or use a program like Finale Notepad (it's quite nice, but I understand that you have to pay like $30 for it or something).

£ is actually GBP, € = Euro. Anyway I did some googleing and found some things out about those. Garageband doesn't work on PC, however Adobe Soundbooth CS5 does look like its worth the money. I just don't know whether I would get my moneys worth out of it. That's something for me to think about for the next year or so.

Thank you for your help.

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

Soundbooth is just a sound and audio editor, it's kind of hard to create a piece of music from scratch in it. If you can't play or read music, you're probably best suited to get a music loop software, Sony has one called Acid(?) which comes in the same price range as all the vegas releases (home, platinum, pro) which I imagine would be around 50-400 pounds.

Edit: You can get Sony Acid Music Studio from £45, and Acid Pro at £245.

Again, you're not going to find soundbooth much use at all, unless you're using another software to create the music, or recording it.

Simple answer: Make the most of people who already have it.
Not-so-simple-but-more-accurate-to-what-you-were-saying answer: No.

Sometimes it can just be a misspelling of "lololol," but sometimes it can mean "Oh Laugh Out Loud." Take your pick.

Hazzat's link to CS4 proves that there is. I don't know why I didn't look there before as I have an account on the site. But yes anyway who do you know who has it?

Thanks for your help so far everyone.

Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 is amazing and is only around $100. You would need a sequencer in order to use it though some of which are free. Go to Garritan's site to check out which ones are compatible.

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

I was wondering how to get wide screen out of a QCP9000. I would like for my films to have an aspect ratio of 16:9 without being stretched. I know that a few members do this in there own films, so it can be done I am just unsure of how to do it.
Thank you

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

Basically, you just crop the top and bottom off so that you are left with only the middle.

Is there any particular software that does this for me? Because doing it myself seems like a lot of hard work and lots of maths.

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

VirtualDub does a great job at it.

EDIT: here's a tutorial written by an ex-brickfilmer. mini/smile

Cool, cheers for the help.

Re: TDogg's questions about filmmaking

I usually do this in my editing software, Sony Vegas.
