Topic: Voice first?

I may sound n00bish making a topic in THIS forum, but do you guys do voices or animation first?
I've always done voice first so I can be more exact in my dialogue animation but after checking fimyguy1's facebook it seems he does animation first.

Re: Voice first?

it really depends on what I am doing. If I am doing some thing with lots gestures I will record voices first and then animate to the recording. If it is straight forward talking I will film first and record later.

Re: Voice first?

I'm always making voices first, so I can match the sound with my animation.
I just find it simpler. It depends though.

Re: Voice first?

Voices should really be done first - you can choreograph the movements to the words that way. Otherwise it's just lifting arms to show who's talking (which I try to avoid).

Re: Voice first?

I do the voices after I film. I don´t know why; it works, so I won´t stop.

Re: Voice first?

That's what I thought, my n00b friend thinks it was animation first.  Now I can rub it in his face.

But it still leaves the filmyguy1 mystery...

Re: Voice first?

Well, at first I used to do animation first since I hate voice acting. But it was horrible...... But Night_Owl has had much success as well as filmyguy surprisingly. So really it depends on the animators, these two are able to see how long a voice will be.

Re: Voice first?

I used to do the voices first, but it always sounded rushed. I now do it the Mel Blanc way.

(and if you don't know who Mel Blanc is, you are a very ignorant person mini/tongue  )

Re: Voice first?

Who is Mel Blanc, Mr. Arrogant person? mini/tongue

I do not care about your opinion, unless it has to do with it needing more ponies.

Having earned the nickname “The Man of a Thousand Voices,” Blanc is regarded as one of the most influential people in the voice-acting industry.
