Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

In my opinion - the Military were completely useless apart from getting killed. Surely they would just blow the place up? Or at least try to until the Doctor stops them?

And why don't they just pour Acid all over the Angels? I understand that in 'Blink' it was just two ordinary people who were helpless - but when you have an entire Military you've got to actually try and destroy them, or else what's the point in having a Military? Seriously - only one of them actually tried to shoot one. If I was one of them, I would be trying all I could to kill them. I know the angels are indestructible...but how do the military know that? And why do you need the military if they just 'split up and look for clues', die, and huddle around the Doctor? And if they knew the Angels were indestructible, why don't they send more people? These guys are not John Rambo.

Yes, it is a cool idea, but in my experience - military BLOW STUFF UP! Sure, its clichéd - but they are already clichéd enough in my opinion. I never thought I would be begging for a clichéd military, but this is the only time its relevant. Its the Weeping Angels, not the Navi.

But maybe they will actually do something in Part 2. I'm judging too quickly....

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

In the latest episode there were so many plot holes it was unbelievable. But I'm not going to rant about that, the thing that irritates me the most is  why would anyone not want to spend the night Amy Pond? Its not right, he is ether gay, doesn't like northerners or hates ginger people. Another irritating thing is that it is so obvious who that woman killed.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

If it's obvious... who did she kill?

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Him.

The.

Doctor.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Maybe that's what Moffatt wants us to think. And besides, you cant kill the Doctor (its like getting arrested for killing Captain Jack) unless you kill the 13th Doctor, and even then the BBC will probably find some way of bringing him back since Doctor Who rakes in far too much money.

Now that I've finally watched the episode, I can draw a conclusion.

The Angels are ruined. I was right - they DID TALK!! (Well, laugh, but they still made a noise!) And even worse - THEY MOVED!!

What were the two things that made the Angels so terrifying? They didn't move whist a person was looking at them, and they didn't make a sound. Way to 'George Lucas' your own creation!!

And I thought the Angels TURNED to stone, rather than being MADE of stone. I thought it was a self defence mechanism that gave them no choice - which is why they freeze halfway through trying to kill you. If they were MADE of stone anyway.....WHY DON'T THEY MOVE? Freezing wont make them any stronger if they are made of stone whilst they are moving. And...they move SO SLOWLY compared to 'Blink'. IT MAKES NO SENSE! THINK ABOUT IT! WHY WOULD NEED TO STOP IN YOUR TRACKS IF YOU WERE MADE OF STONE!?!?!

Apart from that, the episode was OK. I'm disappointed that the 'Crack' story arc came in so quickly, but hey.

And.....Amy tries to hit on the Doctor? Wow. What a whore.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

The Crack Arc is far from over from what we've seen so far.
I found the "moving angel" scene quite creepy. My personal explanation for the slow movement was that they weren't sure if she could see, and were moving almost tentatively.
Also, they "spoke" through Bob in the last episode. Just thought you should know that, Max.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

I agree with Max in that the whole mysterious scaryness of the Angles has just been thrown away in the last two-parter.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

well I think this is last series personally, the number of viewers have gone down dramatically and the stories aren't helping. Its the classic end to a sci-fi series first the head writer leaves, then they bring back old baddies, then no one watches it, and then we don't see it again for another 10 years until some one makes a film. and 10 years after that they make a new series which becomes popular with a children but people who watched the original think its rubbish until its to late.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Nope.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

The'll keep sucking the good milk out of the show until it's all gone...

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

I'm denying the existence of these last two episodes. In the first one, they abolished most of the scary things around the angels and in the second they took out the rest.

The biggest mystery surrounding them was what do the Weeping Angles look like when you can't see them? I imagined that they turned into flesh and blood with clothes and everything, but no they stay as stone. They also lost the ability to move at the speed of light.

I saw an advert for Doctor Who at the cinema today and realised that they have become just another Doctor Who baddie.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Its an abomination that they should give Angels a two parter and not Daleks - but I'm guessing their saving the Daleks until the finale (I could be wrong though). I loved the Angels, but I personally didn't want to see them again. 'Blink' was SO GOOD that by creating a 'sequel' to it would ruin it - and it did. Its like 'Terminator 2' didn't need a sequel - you cant make something perfect better. The Angels were the perfect villains, and 'Blink' bought such a great sense of closure yet left such a huge impact. Its like I never wanted to see the 'Planet of the Ood'. They were awesome enough in that two parter from Series 2 and bought such a closure that to return to their planet just to cash in on how much people liked them was stupid. Closure is an art no-one seems to understand - mostly because of greed over perfection.

That being said, the situation of Amy not being able to open her eyes was pretty awesome, as was the scene where the Angel came out of the television. The rest was 'meh' - but to be honest, no-one could possibly top 'Blink', and shouldn't have tried to.

The stories, I can understand - the new series is much weaker in terms of writing, which with a guy like Moffatt for head writer is in-excusable. But despite this, Doctor Who is still one of the best shows out there, no matter what I say in my rants. And where did you learn about views going down?

I don't think he did learn about that, I think he just made it up. It has roughly the same viewing figures of when David Tennant first appeared.

I don't think they are, when Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant were The Doctor most the people I know watched Doctor Who, now after the first 2 episodes of this series both my sisters stopped watching it, non of my 200 friends on FaceBook said anything about Doctor who this series, even I am going off of it. the fact is that unless there appealing more for a different audience I would assume there viewers have gone down a lot.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Ah so you based your viewing figures on 'most the people you know'.

The viewing figures are roughly the same it has been since the start of the 2005-onwards you should really check BARB which I trust more to get audience figures than your facebook friends.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

BARB actually says that the viewers have gone down since the first episode of this series from 9,591,000 to 7,824,000 by episode 3.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Yeah? That's a trend in all seasons of like every show. You'll see those ratings sky rocket at the end of the series. Also your only comparing ratings of other episodes from this series not any other.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Anecdotes =/= proof.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

How about you compare Episode 5 of Series 4 with Episode 5 of Series 5? Thats a little more fair.

And your complaint a few days ago about that the Doctor refuses a night with Amy Pond......its a family show. Sure, I would want Amy Pond hitting on me any day of the week, but this is a 7pm BBC Drama, not a 1 am broadcast from Channel 952.

Re: The Doctor Who Discussion thread(SPOILER ALERT!)

Babestation FTW.
Also I tried comparing both episode 5's but it doesn't have records of ether.
well about it being a 7pm BBC drama just look at east enders that's a 6 pm soap which has more sex, dugs and violent behaviour than most other shows. I just think if there not going to give us a new Torchwood they should at least make Doctor who a bit more real. The doctor who's from the 80s were far more violent than these new ones. These days the producers seem to think its expectable to see some one get shot but still let people die in improbable ways. I do however respect them for going further than Mr T Davies ever did.
