What is the right size for widescreen when the possible height is 3888 pixels, and the possible length is 2592 pixels?

Assuming a widescreen ratio of 16:9, you want to take the full width and adjust the height. Adjusted height will be (3888 / 16) x 9 = 2187. So you'll be shooting at 3888 x 2187. That's a bit of an unusual resolution though.
You'd be better going for a standard HD resolution like 1920 x 1080, which will take a fraction of the hard disk space.
