Re: What was the last movie you watched?
I know of many 'epic endings'.
Like in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' - which I wont spoil. Or the ending to 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' - where the house turns into a rocket and blasts the transvestites back to the distant wastelands from whence they came (that movies so weird....) Or 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' (2008), which really did ask the question of 'what happened?' Or the end of the 'Allo Allo' Sicom ("You stupid woman! Cant you not see; I am eloping!!"). Or the several endings to 'Lord of the Rings'. Or my personal favourite, the ending to 'Terminator 2', which even the most macho of mans will weep at, and left you sitting staring at the closing credits thinking "damn". I remember when watching 'Michael Jacksons: This is It' and almost everyone waited untill the end of the closing credits to see if there was anymore footage of MJ performing, and there was.....all 20 seconds of it. But we still loved it.
I love pre-Star Wars movies, where the credits were at the beggining - meaning you have to sit around for an hour watching a load of names you dont care about flashing onscreen yelling "GET ON WITH IT!!" but the ending was just a "The End" screen. Which brings us swiftly to this gem:
The Time Machine (1960)
Based on the GENIUS that was H.G.Wells's inspiration for Doctor Who (or Doctor Who's inspiration to H.G.Wells - according to the classic series) comes a surprisingly epic and suspenseful adventure from the decade that bought us BATMAN!! *holds DVD up to the sky as a white light falls upon it and an unseen choir sings a high note*
For its time, the effects are like 'Avatar'. I'm sure many people on this site will be interested in the groundbreaking timelapse sequences, and obvious yet really cool minatures blended with live-action. Whilst the production value is dated, the time-travel sequences still look amazing. And this movie has a really fun action sequence, with the Time Traveller delivering a Shatner-style dropkick, and throwing blue cavemen into giant pits of lava before single handedly commiting genocide. You know who this guy reminds me of......
Meh. Not quite as awesome.
Overall, it should deserve a better reputation as a classic. It appears this gem has been lost within a sea of diamonds.
