Topic: A begginer

Hi,
Im new in stopmotion and I want to know, is there a program out there for windows that you can use for stop motion, I need one that can take pictures from a folder, instead of a camera. You see, my mom has given me her Canon PowerShot SD790 IS as a replacement for my old Samsung, but the prob is, when I try to use any of the animating software, it requires me to do "live" stuff and expects me to have a webcam. The only Webcam I have is a logitech that wont work. So I just use the Canon PowerShot and transfer photos to my computer using the SD card by putting in in the SD slot. I have tried using a cord but software like AnimatorDV wont recognize my camera. I need a program that is affordable, yet can do at least 16 fps withought all the work you go through with movie maker; I need software that will identify my camera.

Re: A begginer

"At least 16FPS" The standard is 15 (beginners usually use 12 actually), why the 16?

Anyway, most can use the 2 standard systems: 12/24 FPS settings and 15/30 FPS settings.

Try SMA or Anasazi. The only difference is personal preference: do you prefer blue or purple?

Re: A begginer

Use Monkey Jam for frame capture!

Re: A begginer

You might need to buy (yes, I know that horrible word) stopmotion pro mini/twitch the Action! Plus version.

Thanks

well, I have the pictures on my camera, and for them to look smooth, I need 16 fps

Re: A begginer

15fps looks exactly the same and is less effort! mini/delirium

Use SMA, Anasazi, MonkeyJam or Helium Frog for your frame capture.

Re: A begginer

I don´t think that you will find any software to capture "live" from your Canon PowerShot SD790 IS if its not works with CSMC.
In this list here:
http://www.bricktrick.de/index-e-digicam.php
your cam is not included. That meand, that the cam has no remote-controll inside.
Before you try to buy AnimatorDV, try out if you cam works with CSMC:
http://www.bricktrick.de/index-e-csmc.php
If its not working, you will not find a software.

So the last one thing you can do is to use a Shutter cable.

good luck.

Re: A begginer

Just import the frames to Monkey Jam

Re: A begginer

Monkeyjam for frame import?
So you can better use Virtualub:

german tut, but easy to understand!

Re: A begginer

The easiest way to convert frames that are stored in a folder to video is using VideoMach. You will need to find version 2.7.2 or earlier though; the newer versions put watermarks on everything.

Alternatively you could use MonkeyJam or VirtualDub as has been pointed out, but personally I prefer VideoMach.

Re: A begginer

You can do that with Windows Movie Maker, thats what I do.

Re: A begginer

Without a doubt use monkey jam, it's the best free windows stop motion software out there.

Oh, and there is JpegVideo.
And Avimaker...

Re: A begginer

Surprised no one's linked to this yet... Contains links to most of the software mentioned above.

Monkey Jam is the best free program for importing pictures from a folder.

Re: A begginer

It is. And also if you use a webcamera it's all the more easier.

Re: A begginer

No, forgive me, but the best and easyest way to render an clip is VirtualDub.
You can Scale it, edit it, you can use FX on these, you can deshake th clip, you can colour-correct the clip, etc...

Re: A begginer

If I had to choose between VirtualDub, VideoMach or MonkeyJam to convert pictures into frames I'd choose VideoMach first because it seems to be made especially for stringing together shorter clips into longer ones whereas VirtualDub is primarly for video-to-video conversions and MonkeyJam is for capturing frames instead of converting pre-captured frames to video. VirtualDub is also relatively easy to convert frames with, but out of the three I would put MonkeyJam at the bottom of the list.
