What is your favorite kind of storytelling style?
Mine is not to tell the viewer the whole story...or to leave clues about the story, and yet not tell the whole thing. I think the more the viewer can think about a film, the more they get out of it.
Very interesting thread idea Scypax. I always like to leave out an important story element so the viewers brain gears can turn a little when thinking about the film. Unfortunately, it doesn't turn out that well, most of the time.

Well, I like to leave it out directly, but then give hints or clues in a indirect way. Either by lighting, camera angle, what the person says, or all of that combined. Sometimes I like to create it so the viewer can imagine the plot.
Hmm, that IS a good idea. Maybe I should try that. No I'm not stealing your style.

I really like this thread idea. For me it would just be a mix. I'm always trying new ways of telling stories. I've tried comedy, then adding flashbacks, or making the viewer imagine what the flashback would be. At the minute, I'm working on a serious film. I'm using techniques that will add up to a sequel to conclude the story. I'm not sure though.

Indeed I did Mr. Real Brick. But seriously, it's just a guy (Who is very very important in my future film) standing with a gun.
Mine is mysterious with dark scene's that not reveal the whole thing (watch X-files and you'll understand)
Mine is comedy. I like making people laugh.

I enjoy making films with a darker, more serious atmosphere, and it is contributed to by set design, characters, lighting, framing, SXF, etc.
I also like using those little details that really bring a story to life, and make it seem more realistic.
I like a darker storytelling, but leaving certain elements out, so you kind of create what you think happened in that untold moment. And people would defintly vary in what they think happened.
I really like mixing different styles of film myself. I mean, staying home to one is good practice, but if done right, odd mixes could really make the film amazing. But sometimes it could make it really goofy or just stupid, so it really is an art in itself.
I am kinda decent at anything except comedy. I just can't do comedy. I guess I'm just not that funny!
I TRY to do serious, but that's not easy when you have a lot of red & white bricks and barely any black bricks. If I were any good at thinking of jokes, I would do comedy.

I don't have that much black bricks either. I use my trusty blue screen or green screen.
I like your idea of indirectly showing the story. My videos are mostly badly done comedy, think I'm moving into more serious stuff now.

Agreed. It makes the viewer think... however depending on the mood it can differ.
